Jason Whitlock: Tressel should go out fighting for change

Whitlock is a clown. He's basically the Charlie Sheen or Donald Trump of the sports writing community. Most of what he says is to get attention and to be contrarian. I don't put any stock into anything he says

Whitlock sucks. I have not liked him ever since I was little as a KC fan. He is the epitome of a debby downer.

The NCAA and its rulebook must be destroyed and remade.

Great article, no more apt words ^ could describe what should happen to the hypocrisy that is big time college athletics.

He was on Bryant Gumball's show on HBO advocating for the NCAA to be destroyed, but couldn't posit any actual solutions. I thought Rich Rodriguez was going to strangle him. He basically said pay the fooball players a ton of money to play their sport, and the athletes in non revenue sports(like wrestling for Iowa people) could go suck it. Like I said, Rich Rodriguez just kind of looked at him like he was an alien.

That's the basic argument of anyone who thinks the players should be paid. They demand that the NCAA compensate the players for the money they bring into schools, but when it comes down to the details of the plan no one ever has any answers. People like the general idea of paying the players, but are completely clueless. Anyone who thinks it will make the system less corrupt is kidding themselves. It will open it up to a whole other level of corruption.

Yes he did, and it was along the lines of there should be an annuity set up for the players in revenue producing sports that is dispersed at the end of their career with graduation requirements. As far as what Rich Rod has to say (or how he looks at people) who gives a damn, he's a poster boy for all that is wrong with big time college coaches.

We must have watched different versions of the show.

bingo.

Unless you give every D-1 school and player an identical share amount, regarless of W-L record or bowl and tournament participation...it'll only get worse.

And dare I repeat the obvious...they are getting plenty of compensation already. A college education, free academic support, free meals during season. That represents thousands and thousands of $$ currently being "paid" to each player.

This.........At some point a lawsuit will force you to pay athletes from the non-revenue sports, title IX will force you to pay female athletes. Other than maybe a extremely small monthly stipend I don't see how you make it work.

With the exception of about 20-25, D-I athletic departments, my guess the rest are operating in the red.

Did you read the second part of my post? He basically said that all that revenue should be used for the football players. Let the other sports go away. I guess Iowa could kiss their wrestling program goodby with this setup. Just have a minor league NFL and be done with it. That way these kids don't have to make an excuse, adn the NFL can bank more cash off of it.
