Jacob Coons commits to Iowa!

His highlight video doesn't really jump out at you, but he seems to play very hard on both sides of the ball. Looks like he has the tools to be a great defensive player once her learns to use his hands better.

6'4" 240 lbs as a high school JR. I'd bet he ends up playing with his hand on the ground as a DE.

Agreed. DE or TE but probably DE. I think he'll be yet another under the radar Iowa kid that this staff grooms into a stud.

I don't consider kids that have Iowa offers offers BEFORE their JR year as under the radar kid. He camped at both Iowa and ISU this summer and got offers from both. That is pretty impressive.

If you mean no other schools will offer, well that is a good thing. If he camped around the Midwest he would get tons of offers.

no doubt about it.

Why is does everyone assume he will be a DE? Is he stiff? Can't move in space??? Looking at the pics his frame looks like he can put on 20-25 lbs. Playing weight looks to be in the 240-250 range if he puts his hand in the dirt.

My bad on my post at least. I had thought he was already 240 lbs. At that size I would assume a move to DE. At 225 I'd agree TE/Lb is more likely, unless he keeps packing on weight.

Last time I have heard about coon hunting was in England

To me, for his size, he doesn't seem that strong. These are only Sophomore highlights and his body will change some. He could pack on some weight, but I want to make sure his strength comes along as well. I think a red shirt year with a full time college Strength and Conditioning coach could go a long way with him being ready to contribute to the Hawkeyes.
