Jack Campbell Wins Iowa's First Ever Butkus Award

Is he the best linebacker in the KF era? There's a pretty good debate.

Angerer and Jewel are the names that get thrown out there. Hodge and Greenway get some love as well.

All great players who had stellar linemen in front of them with the exception of 2005 for Hodge and Greenway. Campbell didn't have a Matt Roth, Adrian Clayborn or AJ Epenesa level of rush end hurrying passes and shutting down half the field. We will never see a guy as good as Campbell ever again. The dude was unreal. I could watch every defensive play of that Minnesota game once a week for the rest of my life and never get sick of it and let's face it, that game was just Jack Campbell.

I wish I could be a contrarian just for the sake of being one but I think he's the best we've had... Jack is what the rest of the LBs all wish they could be. Size speed strength instincts smarts durability. What else is there? He says all the right things and is the best ambassador for PP KF and the program overall one could be.
Cherry on top the guy is an Academic all American to boot. If I had a daughter.....

Larry Station finished second for the Butkus in 1985. From folks I speak with who saw all of the HF and KF eras, he is the standard. Some of them are wondering now if it's Jack. He's at least in the convo.

He also won a major academic award for athletes, but of course that didn't get much press.
(William V. Campbell Award)

In fact, I challenge anyone to find an end-of-the-year all-academic list, either for a conference or nationally.

NCAA still abides by their old adage: Student (first)/athlete Uh huh

Just sayn.
