Jack Beneventi

I just saw his profile on Scout and saw that he is not at Bennet Academy. Is this right? Seems to be mixed reports. Also, I thought he was a four star and twenty-something ranked qb. Now it says three star and 39th ranked. I know that these rankings are fairly subjective, but there is soooo little news* on here lately that I thought I would see if anybody knew anything about this.

*Knocking on wood as I type this, b/c I know that no news also means no bad news lately, too.:)

On Iowa!

yes, he changed schools. Since he is an iowa commit, don't you expect his stars and rankings to go down? I have been worried about his commitment. He camped at Texas' camp in June. After he committed to Iowa, he was all over twitter recruiting other players to iowa. I have not seen any of that for a long time. He did not pick up a texas offer as far as I know

I don't think the Boyle commitment (And last minue Weigers commit/sign) was very reassuring for him when he could have been THE guy @ Illinois..

That said, I really hope he sticks.

Changing school going into your Senior year (I switched going into Jr year) sounds like a tough transition..

I think his family moved to Oak Park, hence the move. But also, I think that Benet was not quite as high a level as Fenwick in terms of competition. He will have competition at Fenwick, as there is a sophomore starting qb moving in from Mundelein also.

I'll believe he's a hawkeye whenever he signs. Of the 3 qbs (plus Weigers this yr) they got he's the most likely to end up changing. Cook is a possibility to change positions I think but if he doesn't want to early on having 3 qbs in a class seems a bit excessive. And Beneventi will have other options I'm sure that if for no other reason then a better chance at earlier PT would entice him. How good any of them are is anyones guess. Weigers seems to be pretty good. But so did JC.... It'll be interesting to see how that all plays out a couple years from now.

Thanks for the info, Hawk fans. Yeah, 22, I remember when Jake committed to Iowa as a 2 star, and I said, this kid has talent, background, and potential….if he would have signed with Bama, he would be a 4 star. Signs with anybody else, and he's a 3. Signs with us, and he stays at 2. I get that. I just thought that with the continued interest in him that may not happen to Jack. Anyhow, nice that Texas likely didn't give him an offer to consider. I like him the best of the three that are i the conversation.

…but I am going to enjoy two more years of Jake first! He is my favorite qb in some time. I think "The Surgeon", as I like to call him, will cut open the opposing defenses this year. …yeah, that nickname/metaphor falls short, b/c a surgeon ultimately helps people. I tried.

Man is it football season yet?

Tyler Weigers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DkSRZBgoHM

Ryan Boyle: Couldn't really find a highlight tape.

After looking at the youtubes for Beneventi and Weigers, I like Beneventi better. The offense Weigers was in looked to be more short passes and rolling out and attacking outside the hashmarks. Beneventi's offense was downfield and using all of the field. Beneventi's mannerisms and throwing motion remind me of Philip Rivers.

I don't think Iowa could go wrong with either one, but Beneventi looks to have the stronger arm and throws well into tight windows. They both have good pocket presence and mobility and throw an accurate long ball. Beneventi's long passes were much deeper.

Thanks, jumper. How do you feel regarding these three qb's?

Disclaimer: I'm not at all an expert in high school QB play. That said, I think Boyle's wheels are the difference maker between the three young QBs. I think he has the highest ceiling of the three.

Thanks, jumper. I'm no expert either. I can certainly see the virtue in a highly mobile qb. If Boyle has the ability to be a Brad Banks type qb, count me in on that! If not, then I like Beneventi, again, because he just reminds me of Philip Rivers and if he is half the qb Rivers is, well, that's pretty good.

He does have a similar throwing motion to Rivers and he's as tall or taller then him so I see what your saying. I like Weigers touch on the ball. He seems to put the ball right on the money and isn't a statue by any means for a 6'3/6'4 guy. I'm just fired up that Iowa is where they are as the talent level of the QBs coming in. They all look capable of being pretty good and all bring alittle something different. It'll be interesting to see how they do and what the coaches prefer. But I still think Beneventi will have one eye looking around before Feb 2.

Will be interesting to see how the QB battle unfolds and who comes/stays, etc. I like the looks of all 3 ... Jack appears to have the stronger arm of the 3 and seems pretty mobile despite his height. I like the wheels on Cook ... Anything is possible and you just never know he will step up and excel to another level ...

On a positive, Jack attended the Iowa tailgater today with a lot of other prospects and said he is and always has been 100% committed to the Hawks.

Jack is a QB..that's his only position in college. With Cook and Boyle, they can play multiple positions. Bring em all in and let em fight it out...typically that stuff sorts itself out very early on...in the case of Derby, he just wanted to play QB when most everyone felt he would be better served at a different position...and I will never fault him for wanting to see that through.

I don't think anybody has ever said Jack is anything but a QB. The concern was actually getting all 3 to campus to have them fight it out.

The only one who was a possible concern about decommitting was Beneventi and it sounds like he is a solid verbal.

The only reason I posted it was because there hasn't been any chatter about Jacks status in a long time and everybody knew he was going to take in some camps, specifically at Texas and Louisville.

IIRC, Jack was Iowa's first verbal for the 2015 class and has always said he would try and bring top flight players with him. His comments over the weekend just reaffirm the fact that he is completely committed to Iowa.

I can agree on Derby (or any other) to a point. But..when a QB gets switched to LB, then goes from D-1 to JuCo to play QB (and doesn't exactly light it up, statistically), moves back to D-1 and only plays due to injury, switches the summer before his senior year? SOMEwhere, SOMEhow, a coach or two dropped the ball. SOMEbody needed to tell this kid sooner that QB wasn't where he would see the field long-term.

I would say your right and I would sure hope that those conversations were had. Not just coaches but his old man should/could have had that blunt and talk with him. I think Derby just wanted to be a qb and there isn't much more to it then that. Just because someone is better at another position doesn't mean they want to or like it more then another. And we weren't there for all the practices either. Who knows maybe he had some really good days where even the coaches thought he could develop and maybe he consistency just wasn't there. He only had Rudock to beat out and physically and athletically he had him beat hands down. But who knows at this point it's his career to be had and he has to live with the "what ifs" I hope he does well this year I don't blame him either. I can't say if I was in his shoes if every step of the way I'd have done anything differently or not. Hind sight is just that.
