Ivan Thomas Visit?

Ivan Thomas committed a little over a month ago but was then told by the staff he needed to visit campus first. Does anyone have any details regarding his status or if he intends to visit soon and solidify his commitment? 247 lists Iowa as 'Cool' concerning Thomas' interest in Iowa, wasn't sure if there was more to this story...

I exchanged texts with Thomas on June 1. He told me he would be visiting Iowa in the next two weeks. I tried contacting him twice last week to see if he set anything up and got no response. I just tried him again and haven't heard back.

The situation where he committed and then Iowa coaches wanted him to visit first was odd.

I don't understand why they don't just accept the commitment and push for the recruit to visit the campus soon. Seems like a better path to me, unless their offer wasn't committable, but I'm sure it was cuz Brian said they don't roll like that.

Any number of reasons for not accepting it. For example he may not of provided his transcripts or those transcripts may show that he will not be admitted to the U. Transcripts are normally brought on the visit and given to the U to see if the student will be admitted. CAN THINK OF A DOZEN OTHER REASONS ALSO.

I wouldn't trust 247's page on him, it hasn't been updated in a while. Kentucky was still his leader on there when he "committed" to us.

I still have not heard back from him. Not sure of that means anything but he'd been pretty responsive in the past.

Thanks for the update. Seems like the WR/TE hybrid that Copeland aims for. Hope he winds up being a Hawk, but the whole situation does seem odd up to this point.

Yeah if they liked him enough to offer I don't think it makes sense

Odd situation indeed. I saw on HR that he's slated to be on campus tomorrow, but June 2 on twitter he stated his recruitment is still open. I wonder if one or both sides have reconsidered things.

I actually like the idea of not accepting an offer before a visit. How true was this kid going to be to his commitment anyways if he doesn't understand the coaching staff has his best interest in requiring a visit. How could one make the best decision on a college before a visit?? It wasn't a well thought out decision and the coaches recognized it.

Probably Iowa was just his biggest offer at the time, he got excited and wanted to commit. Problem is he probably would have done the same if a bigger offer came around.

My problem is it seemed that his recruiter accepted the commitment, then spoke with the head cheese and had to relay the bad news to the kid. IMO, it still seems that there are communication issues amongst the staff, at least when it comes to recruiting.

And if I knew how to link the article I would
Copy the url like on this page: https://www.hawkeyenation.com/forum/threads/ivan-thomas-visit.78923/ then paste. If you don't know how to right click, then highlight the words and hit ctrl+c to copy and ctrl+v to paste.

If you're talking about his comments from Hawkcentral about a month ago, and how ISU has non-commit-able offers, this may not be the same. If Iowa offers a player a scholarship contingent upon him visiting the school so that he is certain that is where he wants to be. I don't see that as a non-commit-able offer. In fact, I see that as a much better way of doing things to help the student; unlike Fleck and his high pressure commit tactics.

Edit; I assume you have an article saying how Iowa, in this case actually gave out a non-commit-able offer or you are part of the staff. Not assuming that it is non-commit-able.
