It's overkill to mention again but........

Carver blows chunks as a home court.

Anyone watch the start of KU-ISU last night? The noise was deafening and that probably wasn't even their students A game since ISU wasn't even a top 10 opponent. Played this awesome pre-tip music the students were bouncing around to.

Definitely not the theme from Halloween circa 1978 that we play to start our games or the Imperial March from Star Wars circa who knows when it was so long ago.

Beyond incomprehensible that when the renovations went in NOTHING was done to get the seats or students closer to the court or the whole game day atmosphere wasn't broken down top to bottom and any improvements made.

The bands are the biggest waste of space around. Play nothing but the school, fight songs, In Heaver there is No Beer, and nothing else after 1980.

Probably a better idea going forward to bring recruits to the women's games than the men's.

The Halloween (do they still even do that?) or Imperial March themes don't bother me.. What I have a problem with is how quiet Carver often sounds on TV and how it LOOKS in the stands.

All you see on TV around the court is people sitting there with their hands in their laps. Many are still doing that even when the team is on a run and CHA is getting louder.. Ugh. It just doesn't look raucous at ALL.

Last Saturday's game, you could hear the students but they sounded a mile away. Probably because they ARE.

I can't believe there is nothing that can be done about this.

Is this another Mason/Barta issue?

Carver <<<< than Breslin Center and other Big Venues. Get the students down behind both benchs and behind the bucket the opponent shoots at in the second half.

The University made a decision when the arena was built that the large donors would get the best seats at courtside. The students don't contribute, so they don't get the primo seats.

It is highly unlikely this will change. It would take a new arena, and even then I wouldn't expect anything drastically different. It is frustrating to think that game day atmosphere apparently is of no concern at Iowa.

Carver isn't a bad arena, not great either, but it used to get very loud.

I think a lot of this come down to the overall poor public relations & marketing the athletic department does. Whether its the weight-lifting fiasco from a few years ago, Kirk & Barta defending the program recently, or the official athletic website that somebody mentioned a few weeks ago, its just all substandard. They have a hard time getting people (especially young, energetic people) to the games for several reasons and also have a hard time producing a fun experience.

Iowa just deals with public relations situations very poorly. Barta & Ferentz spoke publicly to try to make fans feel better and only made it worse. In fact, every time Ferentz speaks to the media it seems he loses more fans. And of course the weight-lifting thing wasn't even addressed for awhile. They just allowed national media to destroy the program without saying a word.

And all you have to do is take a look at how Oregon markets its program, from the website to the apparel. They are targeting a young boisterous, audience. Iowa targets old & hopefully wealthy. The seating chart at Carver is another example of this. Rich & old = great seats along the side, young & poor (mostly because your paying so much in tuition) corner & behind a basket.

We must get the students closer to the court and the visitors bench. I have been to Carver and it gets plenty loud...we just need that volume to be down low and behind the visitors bench.

As already noted. The $$ gets the best seats in the house. The students get zip. Thats the problem. That and the sheer volume of blue hairs telling you to sit down.

Do you blame the taste of a candy bar on the wrapper? Carver is fine, it's the product that needs the upgrade.

I am deaf and I thought Carver is very loud and I thought it was loud enough to blow somebody's speakers! My head still throbbing from the game vs Ohio State. I think OP is more deef and in need of power booster and ampfliers for his ears.

We can get loud no doubt. Need to win, pure and simple.

I do hope the marketing crew is looking towards the future though - our youth - to get them involved. Need youth and old suckers like us both!

Exactly right. Iowa could build a brand new venue and get the same results if they put the student section in the same place while the blue haired knitters continue to sit courtside. Recipe for a nap.

It's tough to get loud when Iowa misses every shot that would blow the roof off the place EVERY DAMNED GAME!

Another NIT run or play in game loss and there won't be any students to worry about unless it's free tuition night or free Papa Johns night.

Give it a rest. No seating changes are coming, and they would have little effect on the outcomes of games if they were.
