It cannot be explained....

Why I haven't experienced the joy in 40 years of watching Iowa football seeing them have even ONE big time receiver....and I'm not talking about Tim Dwight, so don't bring that weak shit in here or it will get swatted into the stands. I am talking about a 6'2 - 6'5 strong/fast/athletic/go get the ball and out muscle everyone receiver. NOT ONE in 40 F'n years.....this shit that Ferments throws out on the field at WR year, after year, after year, after year, is UNBELIEVABLE.....ESPECIALLY given some of the receivers we have seen in Ames. I am sooooooo ready for this Ferments football to end....including Brain.

Terrible title! It can EASILY be explained!

Ready? Here we go!

No "big time receiver" wants to come and spend most of his time blocking!

Done!

It's not ending for a few years, at least. ISM has proven he can be that guy, in games. Easley and VB have proven more than a little they can make plays(although VB has struggled a little).

ISM was targeted twice yesterday...and 1 was a 30 yard play He made. Fant, who is a mismatch everywhere, was targeted about twice. Brandon Smith fumbled, but was Trying to make a play, and was put in a bad spot.

It's not the Joe's at WR...not this year.

Also, our offensive is often secretly mediocre in pass blocking. Great run blocking and if the run game is rolling and we got PA it's fine but if it's 3rd and long and the D pins its ears backs our line gets whipped usually.

What do you tell a big WR recruit? Come to Iowa and you will likely get 40 yards per game, rarely be ranked, run block 80% of your routes, and you have no chance at playing at the next level. Those problems will never change while Ferentz is here. When you are starting a JUCO player at receiver you clearly have severe recruiting issues.

Our wide receivers are not talented, outside of maybe ISM. The rest are just brutal. I remember before the season how Brandon Smith was going to tear it up this year. He has 2 catches for about 4 yards and a fumble. We have nobody at receiver that a defense has to fear, nobody. Nobody that can stretch the field, sure some of them might have decent straight line speed, but they are slow getting in and out of breaks, so they are blanketed by a defensive back. Stanley cannot throw a deep ball anyway, so it really doesn't matter. Teams will play man against our receivers and load the box against us every single game, and there isn't a damn thing we can do about it. Recruiting matters, and we cannot recruit quality receivers.

Great run blocking? When?

Do you really believe we don't have enough talent at WR? ISM, Easley, VB, Fant. And B Smith hasn't exactly been put in great positions.

Or are you angry we actually have enough talent, and aren't using it or putting it in a position to succeed.

I think Stanley has shown some great stuff, but those WR that you've said are slow and can't get separation...have been open deep...often.

Marvin McNutt was the last even close to that type of receiver, he was more than above avg for what Iowa usually has, DJK would hardly ever really leap to high point a ball, he was slightly above avg and I think holds the Iowa receiving yards record or number of catches record. CJ Brown made the pros for a bit and was big and fast.

Solomon was that type of receiver, big, fast etc. We havent had many in the last 20 years.

Pretty much this. When our receivers manage to get open we have a QB who can't get them the ball anyway. His touch is awful. I don't care if he's just a SO. Any starting QB at a power 5 school should not have this much trouble throwing the football.

You need only look out west to answer your question. Sadly I'd take Butler, Lazard, Jones and probably a few other guys before I'd take any of our WR. I don't know how anyone wouldn't. Big 6'3"-5" fast receivers who are constant mismatches and stress defenses sound pretty nice to me (even though our staff wouldn't know how to use them).

I get what you're saying. But ISU throws a ton and they seem to have great talent at WR...but yet, they will win 4 games this year.

I simply don't believe WR talent is why we are struggling on offense. Past years, maybe.

I'd agree. WR are seemingly better than they've been, but that isn't exactly saying much. Again, if your QB is unable to get the ball to guys when they're open it's really a moot point. I just have a hard time with the fact that the Clowns have way more talent at skill positions than Iowa has had in a long time.

-------you mean like a Terrell Owens or Micheal Irvin?

A Michael Irvin would go up and down the bench chewing ass, and when he got into Brains face for not getting him the ball he would put his thumb in his mouth and wet himself.

very much agree. it's the X's and O's on offense this season, so far. I really believe that if we game planned to throw 40 times a game, Stanley would put up big numbers and our running game would open so that we start getting big chunk plays on the ground. But......
