CENTRAL IOWA METROPOLITAN LEAGUE INVITES 19TH MEMBER

Des Moines, Ia. -- The Central Iowa Metropolitan League (CIML) announced today that Iowa State University has accepted an invitation to join the league as its 19th member, the first new member since its formation in 1991. Initial interpretation of the league's bylaws seemed to preclude inviting a full-fledged university into a league for high school boys, but this obstacle was overcome when Iowa State officials agreed to rename their school as Ames College.

“This is an historic moment for the Conference, as the CIML has been looking for a new challenge. Ames College is a great fit for our conference both academically and athletically,â€￾ said League Commissioner, George Franklin.

"Playing football on Friday nights will be quite a change of pace for us," said Ames College head football coach Paul Rhoads. "I hope they don't expect us to play Valley in the first year."
