Is this all a bluff?

Is the BigTen using Nebraska to get a commitment from ND? Is all this Nebraska courting part of a bluff?

If the BigTen introduces Nebraska as its 12th member, that could start the dominos falling that could tear apart the Big XII, drastically expand the PAC 10, dismantle the Big East, and ultimately force ND into a 16 team BigTen.

Is this the discussion between the BigTen and ND:

"Do you want to play in a 12 team league, a 14 team league, or a 16 team league? The longer you wait, the bigger the league gets. It’s your call."

This is all quickly coming to a head.

If ND jumps in before Friday, does the BigTen revoke its Nebraska offer?

ND isn't jumping in before Friday. It just isn't going to happen that fast. And we don't even know whether an offer has been extended to Nebraska though I doubt Nebby would be taking these alleged steps if they didn't have an offer in tow.

Yep, things sure are coming to a head quicvkly. The Japanese special envoys will be in Washington Sunday, Dec 7th. Any chance that they will call off the attack on Pearl Harbor?

A slight problem with your query. Well, actually at least two problems that make it pointless.

1. Not only is there no Big Ten offer to revoke, as the chairman of the BT presidents said on Saturday Nebraska hasn't even asked to be considered as a potential candidate when/if the BT presidents decide to expand membership.

She also pointed out that (a) the basic requirement of the BT for inclusion is the suitability of a university to further the research capabilities of the CIC--the BT consortium that is the highest priority of the BT. And she stressed that academic excellence is the top concern of the BT presidents in considering the merits of different potential members.

On both counts, Nebraska hasn't the snowball's proverbial chance in Hades.

2. Notre Dame insists that it is not interested in the BT, and that it has no intention of transforming itself into a major research university in order to get its football program into the Big Ten.

Notre Dame doesn't want to be in the Big Ten. The Big Ten does not want Nebraska. It really is as simple as that.

Man, you're going to be eating some crow in a couple days...

exactly what i was thinking rodg...i wouldn't have said "crow" but the same general point, lol

tigger has no problem being wrong and writing dissertations explaining why he couldn't possibly be wrong. For the most classic example of this you just have to go back to his explanation of why Lickliter would not be fired because administrators liked him and the way he ran his program and they wouldn't let the athletic department fire him.

Makes his tomes on this subject look like glosses. However, in then end it will be the same result.

You remain both gullible and clueless. The B10 is offering Nebraska, not the other way around. Educate yourself on "plausible deniability". On your second point, Nebraska is an AAU member and ranked HIGHER THAN IOWA on research expenditures in 2008 (http://www.nsf.gov/statistics/nsf10311/pdf/tab27.pdf)

Or maybe you're still trying to understand how Iowa could have lied to us in denying the Lickliter rumors.

It is a bluff...the ND, Nebraska/Missouri and Texas talk is just a smokescreen since the real end game was to get the entire Big12 North to join the conference...Big10 Network has confirmed that the domain name "bigflyoverconference.com" has been purchased by credit card, by a "J. Delany"...for $1.99, sometime last week...and Nike is already producing dozens of "The Big Fly Over Conference" sweatshirts, also purchased by a J. Delany, sometime last week.

Attention tigger - how do you like your crow served?

ND is simply waiting to see what Texas does. The only reason they join is if the whole 4 super conference actually happen. They are smart enough to know they will have to be part of one of those conferences to really be mentioned in any national championship talk. 11-1 with wins agains army, navy, sdsu, and north carolina won't cut it.
