Is it what it seems??

I mean with all this vigor already being generated about this matchup, and the likelihood of a poor Fiesta matchup (Uconn vs OU) with more pressure to put butts in the seats in arizona; Do you think that Iowa would "settle" for this bowl? Does that mean that Iowa generates a backdoor deal to ensure this happens? Here's where I sit: I personally love the storyline and potential for this matchup, but what about the wants and desires of the pecking order for Big Ten Bowls. If the Outback and Gator "think" that PSU and Michigan will give them good games and turnouts then fine....

But one thing to consider here - the outback has never passed on Iowa when they've had a chance to take them. Is this the "triple-confirmed Fiesta Bowl" hype all over again? I mean the Outback, Gator, and Insight have kept things close to the vest (as they should) -regarding their interests. Why isn't uptick Mississippi State being sloted in the Gator instead of Florida? We could play well against them..... so I pose the question:

ARE WE REALLY OUT OF THE PICTURE FOR THESE OTHER BOWLS?

KF on Jan 1 gets $400k signing bonus directly deposited into one of his many accounts courtesy of the contract he signed just ahead of the season.

I know it is probably a drop in the bucket, but Ferentz does have an incentive to win this game (he already got $100k by just getting to a bowl), but if he WINS the bowl against a ranked oponent evening our record against ranked teams (3-3). It should get us back in the top 25 yielding KF another $125k. must be nice! if you have never looked in depth at his contract it is quite a deal!

He his well paid , and I think he is a good coach. Don't mean that we can't be disappointed in him.

I agree, i guess i forgot to post my point with his incentive....does that make him try to negotiate a more "winnable" game? i.e. gator vs a team like Mississippi St?

In 1996 we were tied in overall record, we did not play head to head that year, and Michigan was fresh off an upset of the undefeated Buckeyes. that kinda leaves no doubt with whom they would choose. plus that was a different michigan. we also had two "bad" losses that year, @ Tulsa (4-7), and home versus Northwestern in a game we were favored by (-6) in which we ended up losing 40-13. I would choose Michigan myself in that situation, no doubt.
