Is it possible for Sandeman to have another year?

Would it be possible, since he has not taken a redshirt and he has missed a significant amount of time over his career due to injury?

Common sense would say he should get one. But I doubt the NCAA would give it to him. They've turned down appeals that had stronger cases than he would have.

WTF? His first three years with this program he has played in at least ten games per season.

There is a certain number, I want to say around 30% of the games, that you cannot go over. He has not been injured for 70% of the games in any of his seasons. This will be his last year.

Do we really want him returning punts for another year anyway? Do you think the other team is really worried when he gets the ball?

Let me ask you, when the other team punts to Iowa and Sandeman...are you even remotely thinking he could take this to the house? Let me tell you, against Arizona, when we punted or kicked off, I was freaking seriously concerned and just wanted it over.

I'm just asking the question. Who is he frightening back there? He is going to catch the ball, not turn it over, and get his 8-12 yard returns...maybe break one 20 or so. JMO.

Im with you here. I dont really understand him back on punts I dont want to dog the kid too bad but is it just because they dont want someone else getting hurt? Hes an okay WR but punt returns he looks like he doesnt even want to be out there.

Punt returns with both him and Cheney last year were ho-hum at best. Neither presents a threat and a majority of the time they don't even try to catch the ball.

Sandeman does his job. Ferentz wants a guy back there that won't turn the ball over. Sandeman gives him that without risking injury to a key player.

Yes this is the right answer. Fans me included would love to see DJK back there but that is not smart. What about Keenan Davis?

Disclaimer I know Kirk knows best this is just for discussion.

Apparently you forgot about last season when Sandeman was out. You want to talk about frightening people. Our punt return game was terrible.

Here's what I want to see in a punt return game (in order of importance)

1. Catch the ball and don't turn it over.
2. Catch the ball in the air so it doesn't roll another twenty freaking yards after bouncing.
3. Get up field. BTW 8-12 yards is pretty freaking good for a punt return.
4. Bust a big one. If you get one a season that's pretty good.

Sandeman does the first three well, and it wouldn't be good football to sacrifice them for a chance at the last one.

Also, just cause someone can fly doesn't mean they'll bust one. Brodell had wheels and I only remember him taking one to the house. Before that I don't remember anyone since Dwight, but I'm probably forgetting a few.

Jovon Johnson had a goofy one against ball state I think it was?

Pay attention. Sandemann is rock solid on punt returns. He often catches the ball, and he often makes the first man miss.

Jeez. Pay attention. This still isn't NCAA 2010 or Madden.

Razor Ochoa had a PR TD against Buffalo in 2003 as well. That guy is one of my favorite Hawks. Quite possibly #2 on the list of greatest "Next Man In" under Ferentz. I don't think anyone ever touches Brownlee in that category.

I don't know about the details of football, so I don't understand the difficulties behind punt returns, but obviously it's not something anybody can go out and do. Spievey tried it and failed miserably. Sash tried it, and I don't think he even caught a single ball, but was just a body to be out there. Sandeman may not have that run back threat, but he can at least catch the ball, NOT fumble, and return it a dozen yards to give some better field position. So I think he does a good job. Certainly I'd rather have Brodell or Dwight back there, but Sandeman is more than capable.
