Iowa Women Cruise Behind Disterhoft, Gustafson

I was surprised to see Ally and Megan score 29 and 25 with how Coach Bluder platooning 5 in 5 out the whole game. The hawks looked better this evening and I'm amazed at the talent that's on this team. I don't remember seeing Alexis Sevillian play tonight? Rob Howe I don't remember seeing Alexis Sevillian play tonight. Are they red shirting her or is she hurt? ClintonIAfan do you know anything about that?

I watched the replay on Bigten2Go. Sevillian did not play. I am not aware of anytime Coach Bluder has red shirted anyone except for injuries. I also have not read anywhere about her being hurt. There are a lot of players who can really play on this team and Coach has said in the past she gets caught up in the game and forgets about getting players in that she intended to play. I think that's why she's doing line changes (5 for 5). It is nice to see some top notch athletic defenders (like Cera and Doyle especially). We really have not had players like that in a while. Also it's great to see Hannah Stewart has made so much progress since last year. She missed some easy shots, but her defense was very good. We'll need her size until Carly Mohn returns.

I think Alexis Sevillian was sitting on the bench next to Carly Mohns. Neither were in uniform. She played with a face mask against Lewis because of a nose injury. I am not sure if not playing yesterday was related to that.

Thanks ClintonIAfan. I do remember seeing her with the mask on against Lewis now that you mention it.

Sevillian is a very good defender also and could contribute this year also. This team has a lot of talent and is going to be a lot of fun to watch.

It's going to be interesting to see how this class develops. Coming in Alexis was thought to be the best scorer. Good handle and able to get to the basket. Meyer probably the best shooter. All the guards were really athletic. Bre Cera long and quick, and Doyle good at everything. Amanda Olinger has a nice 3 point shot and can also drive. Only thing missing is some size behind Megan. Chase has height but is still pretty slim. She was a point guard until a late growth spurt. Jinaya Houston looks like more of a Disterhoft type player.

Totally agree with you on what's missing. Looks like we'll have to wait for the 18 class unless we get a transfer which is highly unlikely. Chase has showed signs of being more aggressive and can hold her own but I think against the marylands and ohio st's. it could prove to be a problem.

Chase Coley had 8 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists in just 13 minutes! With that kind of productivity Iowa will be in great shape with her. Also Hannah Stewart has improved a lot. She provides a good physical presence off the bench.

Chase also had a couple of steals that came at good times. Chase has a sweet jumper and I hope she utilizes it a lot more. She has a soft touch on the ball. Most of her points will come 10 foot away from the basket instead of on the block. This team has so many ways of scoring. If the freshman can improve quickly we might have a run at the BIG title. The notre dame game will be a good teaching game for them before the BTC starts.
