Iowa vs SDSU game thread

Coming off Iowa's big win over UMass in the first round of the Hawkeye challenge they have a major test in South Dakota State. The jackrabbits beat Montana 84-43 yesterday. Last year they made it to the second round in the NCAA tournament and almost upset Stanford in the 3rd. Iowa will need to play well again today. This will be valuable experience with UCLA and Notre Dame upcoming on the schedule.

This is the team that Tagyn Larson transferred to, however she has to sit out the season due to transfer rules.

The Hawks played a very sloppy game. Lots of easy buckets missed only 3 from 3 point land. What really hurt us was only shooting 6 free throws. Was a great game to try and mix and match players. I think the coaches figured a lot of things out about this young team. Being down 15 to come back to tie it says they've got a lot of fight in them.

I wish when the team is in a funk for a long period of time the coaches would switch to a press. Sometimes that's gets them in gear and gets them going. In the 4th. quarter Lisa Bluder did do that and they made a comeback. Would of liked to of seen that in the first half.

These girls have got some big games coming and it will help them out considerably. I really like this team and I think we'll see some very good things from them this year. GO HAWKS!

I know Tania Davis is a PG and is supposed to run the offense but she doesn't shoot nearly enough. Maybe as the year goes along she will.

I think the best lineup is Doyle, Disterhoft, Buttenham, Stewart or Mohns and Gustafson.
Coley plays so soft and is too slow to defend on the wing and can't shoot beyond 12 ft. Meyer needs the game to slow down for her so she can reduce turnovers and get shots to drop. Davis could be a good off the bench option.
She has a lot of bad defensive matchups and offensively can't finish drives and seems hesitant to shoot unless WIDE open. The only scoring options for much of the game yesterday were Disterhoft and Gustafson. Inject Doyle, Buttenham , and Stewart and you have 5 options.
What has happened to Kastanek ? She plays out of control for a senior.
Lisa needs to shorten her bench. Doyle and Stewart are going to be studs.
This is just my opinion but I have seen every game this year and these are my conclusions so far.
