Iowa vs Iowa State secure through 2017

Not true. ISU said that. Iowa has to see what the B10 does with it's schedule 8 or 9 game. Plus either school can cancel it not just ISU.

Once the Big Ten goes to 9 conference games, Iowa can get out whenever they want. This is just in pencil...

If they've made this announcement, its because agreement HAS been reached to lock it in thru 2017. My personal preference would be an every other year rotation, meaning each school gets a game at home against one another every four years...but its not to be, at least, not until at least 2018.

It is probably a decent deal. It is starting to cost a lot of money to bring in cupcakes like Ball ST, I am thinking close to $800,000. I doubt they would be replaced with a BCS team, so why not play a BCS team that the chances of beating are very high.

Home and home with San Jose State and Toledo? Seriously, why would they agree to travel to those venues?

No, it doesn't. If that was the case, it would mean that we also know what Iowa's schedules look like after 2014, and that isn't the case. Iowa's schedules have only been released for next year and 2012.

Until there is a new contract signed between Gary Barta and Jamie Pollard, nothing the the Cyclones say in a press release means anything.

There is a contract in place but there are qualifiers. The changes in the Big 10 could easily make the ISU series impossible. ISU can say what they want but this is not for sure.....at all.

There always seems to be an angle or slight of hand when dealing with Pollard. That's how I'm reading it otherwise there would have been something from the Iowa side (or a joint announcement) about this continuing series which had been in limbo up until we were enlightened today by the ISU AD.

If the Iowa/ISU series going forward thru 2017 is still in limbo then he should have noted it in the release vs. it being described as secure or locked up.

He didn't mention it, because its not in limbo. And while, as Shada said, Iowa's schedule is not "set" or released post 2014, that doesn't not mean that parts of the schedule are not "set". This is one of those parts. Is it impossible for that to ever change...of course not...teams drop out of contracts all the time as Mizzou did with Iowa. So nothing is ever set in stone. But this announcement is a pretty clear indication that Barta and Pollard have locked things in through 2017...at LEAST in a verbal/gentleman's type of agreement.

This still doesn't mean Iowa and ISU will play after 2014, if the schedule doesn't work out with the Big Ten for Iowa to have 5 home conference games the year they play at ISU you can bet every last penny you have Iowa will pull out of the series and the current contract allows that.

As of right now it's set. It could change on either end in the future though.

How far out does Iowa have non conference scheduling done.

As for the Toledo and SJS deal, I have no ******* clue. That seems stupid to me.

Guess we'll find out soon enough but when the press quotes Pollard as using the word "finalized" that usually means it is not subject to change.

Someone needs to call Delaney and tell him that ISU has finalized their future games with U of I and the Big 10 needs to work around it.

Oxymoron of the day.........it has been finalized on a gentleman's agreement.

Iowa does non-conference scheduling the same way everyone else does; typically around six years in advance. Right now, Iowa and Iowa State are playing until 2014.

After that, nobody knows.

Iowa only has future schedules through 2012 at this point, I know next year Pitt comes to Iowa for the game out there in 08, but I thought they also had 2 other games scheduled later as well, but like I said if the Big Ten goes to 9 games in 2015 and Iowa doesn't get 5 conference home games the years they are at ISU then this series is over.

He (I'm assuming you're referring to Pollard) didn't mention it because he has no idea what's going to happen on Iowa's end. I'm sure he and Barta talk somewhat frequently, but I'm going to guess that keeping the ISU AD in the loop about how the Big 10 will schedule games after 2014 isn't something that's very high on Bartas list.

Don't take this as me saying that Pollard is full of ****; take it as me me saying that until I see something from the U of I, I'll take everything that comes from Pollard with a large grain of salt. Big 10 non-conference schedules - for every school in the league - won't be finalized until the league decides whether or not to go to a nine game conference schedule.
