I hope Nico keeps working hard to take that starting spot because feels like he's one that would get frustrated enough with PT to look at transferring for PT elsewhere.
Donatell is a senior so it's Nico's spot next year unless an even younger underclassmen is a stud and takes it from him. Transferring would be stupid because it's his to take and he wouldn't have to sit a year.
Nico Law should be starting already. Considering we heard all offseason how even Nico and he were, there's zero upside to starting Tom Donatell. Nico is the guy who has a chance to be a very strong player. If you don't give him proper reps this season, you're in the exact same situation next year. The only way for him to get that experience and begin to take the next step is to play and experience in-game situations.
I remember a few years back, Duke had a basketball game that they started off playing awful. After a few minutes, Krzyzewski benched all five starters at the same time, sending them a message. They got the message, stormed back, and ended up winning the game.
I wonder if Ferentz has considered a radical lineup change to send a message? (Stop laughing at "Ferentz" and "radical" being in the same sentence.)

Loyalty > talent = Ferentz

Donatell has looked shakey at best (3 passes he was burned on, had Steele thrown it worth a darn they would have been TDs) and is a senior. So, getting him the experience gives us no return on our investment in the future. Nico would be able to use it for 2 more years, with potentially HUGE benefits. Start him.
