Iowa Two Deeps from Media Guide

Matt Tobin is the backup at left tackle? Gotta admit, never heard his name before.
Otherwise,no real surprises.

He turned out to be pretty decent for me in NCAA 2011! I'm guessing that will translate to the field in the next couple of years.

Really curious to see which backups emerge this season, well have alot of holes to fill next year.

I really like the left side of our line.

somewhat surprised to see Hyde over Berstine.

Whats the deal with DJK or Sandeman?

I really hope Bernstein does something big this year. The clock is running on him, and he was big time talent coming out of HIgh school.

Our 2 deep on the D line does not have much experience. I really hope they stay healthy.

Both Daniel and Daniels have been in the program a while. Each have played some, I think Mike Daniels has played a little more. I think we go 6 deep, then have a pretty big drop from there.

Would like to see Wegher slotted as starter at RB but it's great to have three solid players at that position, any of whom could start, plus what sound like talented back-ups.

I think that the current depth chart is rewarding the work of particular guys through the summer.

It's worth noting that the following guys weren't listed:

MacMillan
Alvis
Lowe

As Homer noted, that chart is based alot on past Spring and summer drills. There will be changes once pads are put on again.

Also, Iowa tends to play their #3 guy on both sides. Daniels is #3 DT and will back up both Ballard and Klug, Daniel #3 DE and will probably back up both Binns and Clayborn while game is close.

Similar situation in OL where Orne may be playing more than one position. I think the younger OL will begin to show themselves more by first week of September and we will have better picture of where things stand.

MacMillan and Alvis haven't been practicing because of injury, hence why they are not listed. However, both have had some good buzz around them considering their youth.

Not sure what is going on with Lowe. He seems to have fallen off the face of the earth. Not sure if its an attitude/commitment thing. Possibly he and the coaches are planning that he redshirts this year? But that doesn't make a lot of sense unless they see him making a position change to safety or something. I think he is more physically talented than Castillo but who knows.

I think Iowa probably has the best starting front 4 in the nation this year, though.
