Iowa sitting well with a 4* OL?

Looks like Iowa may be sitting good with a 4* OL from Illinois:

Ryan Ward - Yahoo! Sports

I've seen a number of posts that say it is down to MSU, NW, & Iowa for his services (and you'll notice those schools are listed as "high" interest on his Rivals profile). Let's hope fellow Illinois commitment Jaleel Johnson can convince Ryan that Iowa is the place to be for an offensive lineman (of course, the NFL draft results should tell Ryan that).

I lived in and my parents still live in New Lenox.. pass Providence all the time.

Prettty great football school in Illinois.

Lotta kids go to Iowa from around there (Southwest Suburbs). There would be no shortage of friends from his school heading to Iowa.

Same school as Eric Steinbach....great high school football program...follow Eric to Iowa,Ryan, and become a multi-millionaire like Eric.

I was reading the rivals.com chat with the recruiting writters and all of them thought that Ward is def going to Iowa. They thought it was basically a lock.

I read the same thing. NW is going to be our main competition since his bro is currently on the team there but they think Iowa will win out.

I posted this elsewhere, thought I'd add it here......

He's dad is very fond of NW and Pat F, so no matter what his ranking is they are very much in the picture. For what its worth he played O-line for Illinois in the 80's and was recruited by KF then....he did make a interesting comment about them "cleaning" things up over there in IC but I pooh-poohed it and then told them good luck. Dad made another interesting comment about son being on some "list" for top tier recruits and he chuckled saying I see him play all the time, believe me he's got room to improve.....Very nice, realistic people and are very finically secure so they'll make a sound decision on what is best for Ryan, without the concern of the NFL per se......

And yes BC is a very Iowa like program, always competitive, recruits like us but always puts a lot of guys in the NFL. Very well respected by NFL people...

PS.....thought I would edit in I never even talked much with him about Iowa and truth be told I'm so unconcerned about this kind of stuff anymore I don't really care where he goes and I never bragged up Iowa in the least. Just down played the silliness of the "cleaning" things up stuff and said Iowa would still be very good next year...Of course I was closing a truck sale with him. ...LOL....Truth be told over the last several years its become obvious to me Iowa gets good players period, either he'll be one or someone else will.

On a corollary note his High school friend Dan Lembke, (whose family we also sold a truck too) went to BC and I'd guess he is very much considering them. Initially I'd have been shocked if he came out here, but I did get the sense his dad liked KF...well see.....

I was IN that rivals chat, and nobody said he was a lock for Iowa.

Farrell said he thought Iowa, but could see NW too. Nobody said he's a lock.

Farrell's initial thought on Ward was "I always thought Northwestern because of his brother but I think Iowa now, the OL tradition and the job they have done recruiting him has been impressive".

Farrell was then asked again about Ward later in the chat and his response was, "I think Ward goes to Iowa".

I don't know much about Ward's recruitment but I do know that proximity still tends to play a pretty big role in the recruiting game.

A lot of people from the Chi-town area go to Wisky, Iowa, Northwestern, Illinois, Purdue, and Notre Dame .... and, in large part, that is due to proximity. Thus, there's a high likelihood that Ward knows several people who have gone to school at both Iowa and Northwestern ... but likely fewer who have gone to BC.

New Lenox is a nice 2.5 hour straight shooter down I-80 to Iowa City.

Made the drive from there many a times. Always loved the drive back to school..

Quick question regarding the "cleaning things up" comment: could he have perhaps meant that Ferentz has cleaned things up from the time that he (the dad) was recruited in the '80s? Or would that be out of context?

No I'm fairly certain he meant the off-field stuff in Dec/Jan. Probably just tossing stuff out there though based on the fact that BC and MSU have both had their share of off field problems. He didn't strike me as naive enuff to think Iowa had a bigger problem than most, though admittedly he did make a point to say it, so who knows….?!?!?

Could have been screwing with "me" for all I know, it was my salesman who made a point to tell him I was a huge Iowa fan. All the same very nice guy as are the Lembkes.
