Iowa seat license revenues

Iowa generates a minimum of $11,707,800 million on seat license fees per year for the seats in Kinnick that require donations, NOT counting luxury suites. If you pay more, and some do, you get priority seating in these sections.

The math was arrived at:

79 rows per section times 28 seats per row in blue, orange and grey sections = 2,212 seats per section
79 rows of 32 seats per row in yellow section = 2,528 seats in those sections.

3 $50 min sections ORANGE 331,800
4 $200 BLUE 1,769,600
4 $400 GRAY 3,539,200
4 $600 YELLOW 6,067,200

It's not a matter of a few thousand people canceling their season ticket purchases, it's a matter of who those people are. If a bunch of North EZ or SE EZ fans stop buying tickets, the financial loss isn't as significant. But if a number of people in the blue, yellow and gray sections stop buying them, AND if nobody else swoops in to move up into those areas, then it hurts.

My guess is that if people stopped buying some tix in the prime areas, there are people waiting to get in there and buy them who have wanted better seats for a while. My guess is it would take a few more years of 2012 type production for the pain level to become significant on the ticket/PSL front.

I don't forsee some mass drop in ticket sales for next year. I think too many people have too much fun going to Iowa football games at the present time for there to be a painful drop.

Now...given that reseating happens in 2014? We'll see

I think people started to cancel those last year. My buddy in IC got high section 109 tickets without a donation last year after being on the wait list to add a few to his current seats and telling them he would not contribute a penny.

Is Patrick Vint the guy who used to poast here as "VintageHawkeye"? Makes a lot of sense, given his name.
Is the mystery solved??

Long-term season ticket holders can generally afford to continue paying the grifters from teh UofI, especially if they think a coaching change is on the horizon. They will want to be in their prime locations for when Coach Diaco starts racking up undefeated seasons and BCS bowl wins.

With the state of the Hawkeye football program, there is a good chance that the reseating will not happen in 2014 as planned. Very well could be pushed off.

I have been a season ticket holder for years and don't plan on giving them up. However, it really annoys the hell out of me that in order for any type of change to occurr, the school essentially makes the fans drive the program into the toilet (i.e.--dropoff in support/ticket sales).

I think it would take 2-3 more years of 4-8 type seasons for there to be any impact. Gamedays are great and the people that have season tickets don't want to give them up b/c of the waiting list. Great deal for Athletic Dept., but bad for fans that are sick of the BS going on in IC.

I will wager you that it will go off as planned

Well, I guess my inside info is better then your on this one. I did not say that it is not going to happen, and it very well may. But I know for a fact that due to the "state" of the program right now that the athletic department is discussing the timetable for the reseat. Gambling is not your thing, and you might want to keep it that way.

the seat licenses are a very inexact science, unless you happen to think that there are exactly the number of donors willing to pay as there are available seats.

Iowa does not sellout those sections ... plenty of non season tickets in the lower corners of the east stands and at/near the top of the yellow and gray sections on the east siide

I would suggest that the university not throw down anymore rules regarding tailgating. If people are not having fun then the school and surrounding businesses lose money. There are a lot of people who tailgate that do not go into the games.

And a few thousand UI employees who only pay 50% of the seat license fee.

I can't remember if faculty get discounts on seat donations or tickets....that may impact the numbers.

The per seat donation increase I've heard for 2014 might be a little out of touch with reality.

I hope you are correct SMB. It would be a little arrogant to think they can raise seat donations with the product thy have put on the field the last three years. I also would guess the fact that they will not be able to raise rates in the near future will be KFs downfall along with people not renewing the large donation for seats.

And now the pieces start to come together. About the time Iowa City started cracking down on the drinking, the fans started coming to the games more sober and realizing our team isn't very good.

Keep 'em drunk and maybe nobody will notice the sad state of the team.
