Iowa Rotation for UNC

Was looking through the Box Score and what really jumped out at me was Fran went to a strong 7 man rotation last night against UNC..

Starters plus Gabe and Josh off bench..

Factor in a Weak 8 Man rotation with Jok getting 9 minutes of action..

I love it.. !!

And he went with Clemmons and sat Ogelsby in crunch time.

It was definitely improved and nice to see. Using Uhl, Dickerson and Jok as guys to just give a quick blow to the starters, rather than expecting them to be part of a second unit like what we had last year, is much better. Now, if Jok ever puts it all together and starts emerging as an offensive threat, things could change. But I liked the rotation last night and sticking with Gesell when he clearly had the hot hand.

I liked that, too. Clemmons has played pretty well overall this year, even if he's not scoring a lot. He played some very good defense on Paige throughout the night and really only had one bonehead play (when he tried to lob the ball ahead for a dunk opportunity and it got picked off).

I agree tm.. I also like you thoughts on Jok, if he can get it going this team could be very, very dangerous..

Jok is completely lost right now. Kid looks to have ZERO confidence. I hope he can get it back, as his scoring ability it what this team needs.

I thought that pass was more of a physical mistake. It was there but he under threw it.

If Jok hits 1 shot then he's a different character out there.....The fact that we played on NC's court was a bit overwhelming for him I think....I'm also glad that Fran has stuck w/him....All it'll take will be 1 game that he catches fire and he'll be ok (and so will the rest of us....ha ha)

Worked to perfection, HP.....

Jok HAS to get it going. He simply can't miss those shots at the rim and needs to start hitting the threes. Sometimes I think he and Josh should simply shoot the ball when open without thinking about it for even a split second. Just shoot the ball.....

I like what Uhl does, even without scoring. He plays good D, rebounds and is around the ball. He is going to be a good one.....

Despite the scoring drought from Josh, that pass to Greg for the dunk was perfect.....

I especially like the smaller rotation at the 4/5 with just Aaron, Woody and Gabe.

Everybody gets their minutes that way.

I felt like those were our 3 best options at those spots last year but Fran just couldn't bring himself to shrink it down that far.

There was a thread on this before the year started and many were on board with this type of rotation...and not going 10 deep. Get the top 7-8 the most minutes and get them playing well together. I watched a little bit more of the NC game again and what struck me the second time is that the defense was really really good. It wasn't a factor of NC just shooting bad, they did, but they were defended and we stopped penetration. Unfortunately, it's Gesell and Clemmons that do the majority of that. Trey, Josh, and Peter a step down defensively, but collectively..they were much better.

I think Uhl is going to special...although he's likely a year away of putting it together. That guys first step with the ball is unbelievable...he is going to fly by people...especially when he starts hitting threes. His shot looks good too...but man, that first step is crazy. At the end of the year, he could be making a big impact offensively. Jok too...hopefully.
