Iowa-PSU from '10 outrates Neb-Wisc

Interesting with all the pub and hype of two top ten teams and Nebraska making it's B1G debut that ratings were down from a year ago. This note from the Wiz of Odds:

TV ratings were down this past weekend. Alabama-Florida earned a 4.7 overnight, a decline of 8% from CBS' primetime game last year. Nebraska-Wisconsin earned a 3.2 overnight on ABC, down 6% from last year.

Iowa-Penn State was the ABC game a year ago that is being referred to there.

I wonder if the MLB playoffs starting earlier this year affected the college football ratings from this past weekend? I imagine the audiences would overlap quite a bit.

Edit: Also, it says right in the article you linked that they compared the Nebraska at Wisconsin game to the Stanford at Oregon game from last year that was played as a mirror opposite of Penn State at Iowa.

Don't Penn State fans routinely claim that PSU telecasts have the highest numbers of any school in the country?

Pretty sure this is a common refrain from them when it comes time for bowl bids.

The article also states that game 3 of the Yankees/Tigers was up 30% compared to the same Saturday night last year that was game 4 so I would say yes that is a reason for the drop in the football ratings.

So last year ABC had Iowa/PSU and Stanford/Oregon in regional action, compared to Wisky/Neb national this year. I would have to think that a regional telecast would outdraw a single telecast, so dropping 6% isn't a big drop.
