Iowa Players Searching for Consistency During Spring Practice

This is Fant's last year at Iowa. Hopefully the younger Ferentz doesn't Sh*t the bed and puts the athletes in the right positions to make plays.

I would agree with your first comment...he's likely turning pro if he has a another good year. However, this is where my agreement with your lovely analogy diverges. It's a hard to think Brian "shit the bed" as you so eloquently communicated...when the guy in question led the nation in touchdowns at his position, and had a spectacular year in the red zone. I would say he put Fant in a position to be successful. My belief is that Brian's first year was marred by injury on the offensive line, and the fact that he had a first year QB. Let's give him year two to see if the offense improves. I think it does.

I sort of agree with both of you, WinOne and Licthawk. BFerentz didnt always do crap as OC and Fant and Hockensen had great years at TE. I bet if you ask Fant about the one target he regrets the most it is the OT 4th down drop at jNW. Fant makes that catch and if the hawks can win their whole season is so much different as they likely finish 2nd in the west and win 9 games which just is so much better.

The Hawks offense had about 240 yards in the first half in Evanston but only 7 points (remember there was missed FG in a strong wind and Kirk went for it on 4th down when FG attempts might have made a big difference). Then Fitz attacked more on defense and BFerentz and the offense sort of turtled in the second half until they absolutely needed a score to tie the game. Where was that absolutely need a score attitude throughout the second half?

I think the up and down offense was just the first year OC, new system, not quite meshing, but by the end of the year the offense was looking better, minus the Wisconsin debacle (where I thought BFerentz looked like a rookie not knowing how to attack with straight ahead runs and lots of short passes).

WOTC, I read that post as "hoping" bf doesn't screw it up this season, regarding Fant and not that bf screwed up Fants production, last season. I took it as a reference to how kirk...not bf and the hope is bf won't become kirk...seems to waste SR seasons of some of our most talented players; in this case this being Fant's final season, albeit not SR season.

Conveniently forgets running into 8 & 9 man fronts over and over again.
