Conference announced today that Josey Jewell, Matt VandeBerg and Sean Welsh will represent Iowa in Chicago on July 24. These players are chosen by the coaches.

I don't think it's a diss on Akrum. Jewell and Vandeberg are no brainers and Welsh has always been a coaches favorite. Not really a surprise.
Exactly. If they could take 4 I am sure Wadley would go. But who of the three would you leave out to take him?

Seems to me that they always take an OL, an offensive skill position, and the senior defensive leader.

Who is more valuable to the success of the team? AW or VB? VB is a nice player but he's not a game changer...I would've taken AW...he's earned it.

There is no question the media would rather see wadley over MVB. But the media is looking for interesting stories. The media is also looking for that guy who can eat a raw egg with the shell still on. Remember this one when Drew Ott went to media days.

Probably the most interesting thing to the media about Matt Vandeburg is his new hot wife. They must be married now because she introduced herself as Laura Vandeburg on the latest of those inside Hawkeye videos that she does. That all happened pretty quick. He just proposed, when was it, after the Iowa State game last year?

I don't think that's necessarily the end all be all reason KF uses for picking who goes. It's certainly a part of it but one could say VB has played more. He played some right away his freshman year and has had more impact over the entirety of his career. I'm just guessing but I bet that might be why...

He had some downtime last season.

That is actually a pretty huge/interesting question. Would a fully healthy 2015 VB be harder to replace than 2016 AW? Now that we have the grad transfer in the mix we definately have more depth at RB. We saw what happened to the offense last year when VB went down.

Is Wadley the more dynamic player, yes. Will he get more touches than VB, yes. Would losing him change Iowa's offense more than losing VB, that is the question.

VB also has the whole grayshirt from the middle of nowhere to active player to solid contributor all in 4 weeks of getting on campus angle.

Ha suppose that shouldn't be a surprise from a former teammates angle... I suppose Wadley being in the Heisman discussion isn't crazy by any means. But even let's say if he was a unanimous pre season top 5ish guy for it. To what extent would KF want to promote that? He seems like a coach that wants to find players get credit for what they've done after they've done it more so than before...

Maybe Kirk asked Akrum to go and he turned him down. Akrum's a senior now, his own dude who felt strong enough to decline the invite from Kirk. Maybe hobnobbing with media types isn't his cup of tea.
