Iowa now number 2 in Kenpom rankings

Awesomeness.

Iowa just needs to stay focused - but at 7-0, with several big wins, I'm starting to believe this team has what it takes to see it through. Yes, the Rutgers game felt a bit off, but there basically has been no let down. In other words, I expect no melt down like 2 years ago, where the team was coughing up late leads in big games. Not this year. It just feels different.

A lot of work yet to do, but this could really be a special year - could even possibly rival or surpass the 1986-87 season, that I look back on with so much reverence.

I think Iowa was just trying to do enough to win against Rutgers with that game being sandwiched between Michigan and Purdue. The biggest difference with this team is they can straight up shoot the 3. We haven't had that with any other Fran team before this season. Uthoff, Jok, Clemmons, Baer, Uhl and Ellingson can all shoot the 3 pretty well. That allows us to get back into games quickly if we fall behind. I was worried before the season that our lack of size down low would doom us, but our outside game has improved so much that it has more than made up for that.

Jok is shooting 39.6% from 3. Uthoff, Gesell, Baer and Uhl are all over 42%. Clemmons and Ellingson are over 30%...not great but not bad for our 6th and 7th best perimeter shooters. And Woodbury and Wagner live inside. I would hate to play us. Leave someone wide open from 3 or have someone blow by for a layup and/or free throws.
