Iowa not selected for Wrigley Field Game

They couldn't pick Iowa for that game...40,000 fans would show up, leaving no room for the Northwestern fans...

All 29 of them...

I agree, there is no way enough seats could be found for the fans that would come. Plus, with a large, loud, crowd who knows how much concrete would fall off of the stands. Historic park, but what a dump.

ESPN will televise this game, and there is speculation that Game Day might make a visit...one potential roadblock? Iowa plays OSU that day. I certainly hope that Iowa makes that the Game of the Day on Nov 20,and takes the spotlight off of NW-Ill and ND vs Army at Yankee Stadium(another game day candidate).

I am ok with this actually. I think NW fans will come out of the woodwork for this game and actually put quite a few butts in the seats, unlike when they play Iowa a couple of weeks earlier at Ryan Field. This way, Iowa fans can travel big to NW and get all the tickets they want and dominate that venue again.

Game Day is going to be at the Illinois vs NW game? No, I don't think so.

Read the article in the Chicago Trib today on this game.
I now am relieved that Iowa will play in Ryan Field the week before.
Only 3,000 tickets will be given to Illini for this game.
NW and the Cubs will control the rest.
NW is counting on this novelty act to pump up their season ticket sales as they get first preference. So,many NW elites will order the cheap season tickets to control tickets for this game, and will attend only this game.
When you look at the schematic, there will probably be about 5-6 thousand good seats in the whole park,ie. between the 20's. The rest will be end zone...yuk.
They will serve 8 dollar beers if that is your thing on Nov 20....I prefer a flask that time of year anyway.
Meanwhile, the week before at Ryan Field, NW will bring their typical 8-10k to the house leaving 30k empty seats for Iowa fans to fill...and honestly, after the renovationa and lowering the field, the sightlines are very good at Ryan Field for actually watching the game....so overall...I am pleased that Iowa will not be disrupted a week before our big tilt with OSU with this whole Wrigley nonsense.

And NW hopes for national fanfare related to this game? Sorry, that focus will be on Kinnick that week as the Hawks entertain the OSU Buckeyes...and probably the ND vs Army game at Yankee stadium that day...not on two mediocre teams in Wrigley.

Haha...Game Day at Illinois vs. Northwestern? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. What would they talk about? Who's been worse over the last decade? No thanks.

Thank God we aren't playing in that cursed urine smelling dump, it's bad enough we have to play in Jack Trice every other year.

Hahahaha! Yes.
"Would you like some mildew on your hotdog, sir?"

You're right. I still have nightmares about the 2005 meltdown over there when we were up two TDs with the ball and 5-7 minutes to go... and lost... :(

If it makes you feel any better, it was 13 points, with three minutes to go. Despite Albert Young having 202 yards on the day, O'Keefe was throwing the ball in the second half, and the Schlicher missed a 30 yarder, Greenway got called for a late hit.....
