Iowa not among Top 40 in 2013 football class rankings

In other news, dog bites man. On the surface, this seems a bit troubling in the wake of last season's 4-8 record. Other incoming B1G classes, according to ESPN's RecruitingNation Class Rankings:

4. Ohio State
7. Michigan
24. Penn State (let me know when the sanctions kick in...)
26. Nebraska
30. Wisconsin
34. Michigan State
35. Rutgers
40. Indiana

But I'm sure Kurt will turn it around.

You can't just look at how many "stars" a player gets from professional evaluators!! Ask all the schools that get those 5* players that go to BCS bowls and what not, diamonds in the rough baby thats what we want. I'll take 1 diamond over a number 1 ranked recruit in his position anyday!

Normally I wouldn't care about this since Iowa has been known for developing talent over the years. As of late that has not happened which is troubling.

That's the Ioway way!

BTW, Vegas, that avatar looks, eh, different. Can you post a bigger version in this thread. Would be interested. Thanks

The Penn State number is sickening. Damn aristocratic college football, anyway.

I called this when the sanctions were announced. People on the east coast are delusional about what happened at Pedo State and many are in denial. Even with just 15 scholarships they will still be able to get the top 15 recruits from the east coast. A recruiting class of 15 four and five star recruits is better than 25 full of 2/3 star recruits.

But remember these sanctions were supposed to be worse than the death sentence!

I don't know who Kurt is or how he can help but that list looks pretty mediocre other than Michigan and OSU.

With the product on the offensive side of the ball, what else is there to expect. High schoolers aren't interested in an arachaic offense. Just ask Lickliter.

Are we normally ranked higher than that? Are we making this non-story into a story?

Have you actually looked at their recruits list on Rivals?

based on rivals ratings i have no idea how they get Penn St. #24...a majority of their kids have no ranking at all. But I am not sure if they list all junior college transfers as "not ranked"

As for Iowa I have believed for years that Kirk and his staff do a below average job at selling their football program to kids. A college coach i know(not at Iowa) told me that many of the kids Iowa recruits now just do not have a high enough ceiling talent wise to compete at the Big Ten level. He rattled off a whole list of kids on the current roster and several who just finished this year who had zero BCS conference offers..other than Iowa.

Can we hire Hayden Fry to come back and do some recruiting for us? If they can get good players at Kansas State, we should be able to get them to Iowa City. Its been a few years since we were fortunate to get a Dallas Clark or a Bob Sanders, that wasn't player development, that was luck.

I'm surprised another college coach would be that familiar with the offer lists of Iowa's entire roster.

If what PH said is true, I'm not. These guys all know each other and the kids who are available. There are very few surprises.
