Iowa/MSU replay

I'm up late (on the West Coast) watching BTN's replay of last year's Iowa/Michigan State game, and Adrian Clayborn is just absolutely dominating. I'd forgotten about when he stripped the ball on Michigan State's 8-yard line and appeared to recover it (early in the third quarter). The game might have taken a much different turn if he's fallen on that thing and tucked it away. Still, it's just amazing to watch a defensive lineman dominate a game the way AC does. He could have an N'Domukong Suh-type year.

Other observations:

--We are really going to miss Tony Moeaki and Pat Angerer.

--Amazing goal line stand w/ 5:00 left in the third quarter. The Syracuse goal line stand was more dramatic, but this one ended up being much more important.

--Absolutely have to have some big plays this year, or the Hawks are going to drop some games they shouldn't. Iowa was pretty dominant on the lines in the first half but couldn't convert it to points. They have to spring some big ones and at least make other teams fear the deep ball.

--I'm getting nervous watching a replay of a game from ten months ago. This season is going to be insane.

HA! watching the same game on central time (dallas)

thinking the same about clayborne; we'll find a way to be OK at LB

being able to convert touchdowns in the red zone will be an area of hopefull improvement this year.

Now that McNutt has developed into a top-flight WR, I'm thinking we utilize him more on the fade inside the 10. That's not even mentioning Don Nordmann and Fiedorowicz, who can both play similar roles in the redzone. And Hampton should be a back who can find the goalline better, as well. That's not a knock on A-Rob, Hampton just has more power to him, and can blow open a hole for himself if need be.

Watching this game is like watching two heavy weight fighters exchanging punches in the final round. Last years MS team was a mirror image of the Hawkeye's. It's like trying to beat your self up.
