Iowa misses tevaun smith desparately

At this point I have to say it seems to be tevaun smith, who is
Missed most this year. Before the season I probably would have said Blythe, but iowas lack of a downfield threat is killing them. It seems to me the offensive line is doing an "okay" job pass blocking, it's just seems like CJB is not finding anyone downfield. It's not like tevaun smith was dez Bryant, but his playmaking ability had to be respected.

It seems like both Rutgers and MDSU could blitz and stuff the box at will knowing that none of iowas receivers needed to be keyed on by an extra safety. I love vandeberg but he's a possession receiver who's never going to burn anyone.

This lack of a playmaker on the outside and downfield is making it impossible for iowas offensive line to hold blitzes longer than can be fairly expected. CJB has (mostly) had time to throw, but it seems like his sacks are becoming more coverage sacks.

I think this effect if trickling down, to iowas rush defense, because iowas lack of ability to sustain any drive is wreaking havoc on Jaleel Johnson and bazata, and less so iowas linebackers, because they are simply on the field too much. No other explanation to me can explain iowas defensive dropoff this year.

I said last year T smith was woefully underused.

That said, sometimes a deep shot for the sake of a deep shot is necessary. I'm not talking about 7 step drop and wait. I'm talking about a quick fake, pump fake short or wide...and throw deep. We don't ever try it and I do believe we have a couple guys that can run that pattern.

I agree. With little over the top speed and lack of separation we need to find one really fast guy and pull the red shirt if needed. Too bad that track kid quit the team.
