Iowa-ISU game should not be scheduled on a Friday night

If you want Iowa high school basketball coaches and potential basketball recruits to attend this game, figure out a way to play it on another day besides Friday. Schedule it earlier in the year if you have to, and don't schedule it near finals week. Such a move might actually help attendance! Friday night is for high school ball games.

They can't play during finals week and need a couple days of prep after the UNI game. There isn't really any way around it.

+1 Give the student athletes Saturday and Sunday to mentally recover and then study for finals. Game on Sat. night rushes them and doesn't give them ample time to rest and study. Not that every player goes about it like that, but the coaches have to respect classes and finals schedule.

I'm fine with when it's played. It's not like the Iowa/Iowa State rivalry is that special in basketball anyways.

I would guess many high school football coaches in our state attend the Iowa-ISU football game, which helps to make the game special. High school basketball coaches can't attend a game on Friday night because they have to coach.

IMO, the Iowa/ISU game should ALWAYS be played on a Saturday night. Obviously it can't be played on the Saturday before finals any more. I say give the kids some real time to prep for finals by moving this game to a different weekend. There are plenty to choose from, although you don't want to have it during Christmas break, obviously. Why not just have it the first weekend in December?

Or they could have it on the Saturday after finals, which is when we have played Drake the last several years. Move the Drake game to the Friday slot before finals. Problem solved.

STFU, are you too young to know better, or are you just really dumb?

I agree with him actually. It used to mean something, you know about 15 years ago. The game is hardly a blip on the radar of fans and media statewide. It hasn't sold out for years at either school. ISU/Iowa wrestling probably sells more tickets when it's in Carver.

That said, they should play it a week earlier on a Saturday just to get a little more juice into it, or do a Big Four championship round robin in Des Moines or something over the course of one weekend. That would be a huge event. As of now nobody really cares.

I just looked it up - ISU/Iowa last year had an announced attendance of 13,203. Year before in Carver it was 12,125.

I don't think it really matters (at least right now) when this game is played. Both teams are in an obvious rebuilding mode.

Besides, this is the only game on Iowa's home schedule that makes it possible for the fan from Des Moines to come out on a night that isn't a school night. I don't think there is a single Saturday home conference game, although I know that there is one scheduled at 5 PM on a Sunday.

bcl20 You're right but it is a better atmosphere and it would be helpful for recruiting. Also a better time would help this become a better rivalry (or both teams can become good!)
