Nick Martin to Kentucky

Win some ... you lose some.

We may have missed on Allen ... but we could possibly end up a winner for the services of Martin. We'll have to wait and see here!

FYI, per rivals, Nick Martin is down to Iowa and Kentucky.

BTW, I'm not a sour grapes kinda dude ... I'm not going to say that I wanted Martin more in the first place (over Allen).

While Iowa offered Martin long before they offered Allen ... I've been impressed with BOTH prospects. I really like Allen's athleticism and speed. However, I also really like the fact that Martin projects more as a "tweener" between OT and OG.

To demonstrate how absolutely clueless I am about the recruiting process, I could have sworn that Martin was likely a bit more of a Michigan lean.

Recruiting certainly is a strange game ....

One thing to remark for my fellow Hawk fans ... Martin is a Kentucky legacy. Thus, I urge folks (i.e. that means you Mac) to temper expectations.

Furthermore, Martin was also offered by Kentucky back in January.

then I bet he's a Cat. He knows it, might as well get it over with.

Maybe. I hope not. Iowa lost Scheelhaase to Illinois because he felt that the Illini were a better "fit" for his skills. With any luck, Nick Martin will weigh the fact that Iowa offers a better "product" (in terms of OL development) heavily in his decision.

Homer I'm not that upset that Allen choose MSU, its just the fact that we had a shot at the highest rated center in the country who was a legacy recruit and it was obvious dad wanted him to come and we passed him up for a kid who hoped on the MSU train.

Mac -

I think Iowa passed on Bobek because they felt good about their chances of landing Blythe and Walsh. I don't think it was because they opted for Allen instead of Bobek. OG is a definite need area for the Hawks ... and they needed to make sure that they addressed that need.

Allen was a guy who really impressed them in camp ... so they decided to go after him. Landing him would have allowed them to keep Blythe at OG rather than move him to C.

Lastly, I was just teasing ya! I enjoy your schtick on the board ... and it was fun teasing you about Ngoumou some while back.

Martin looks good from videos very physical, I believe he would have a Ceiling then Allen, but Allen impressed me. Kentucky only has one offense line recruit at this time.

this is gonna be interesting

Allen to MSU sucks but we lived on with Barnett (???) out of Ia decommitting to MSU ....

we will be fine .... just great to see Kirk in the hunt for so many quality kids

This Martin kid is supposedly a HUGE UK fan. That plus being a legacy makes it an uphill battle for his services. I think it is a great tribute to our staff that he is willing to put Iowa in his final two. Fingers are crossed for an upset!

bump .... yep, he was a loyal legacy ... kudos to him.

Loyalty is a good thing.

Too bad scheelhaase didn't have such loyalty. Sorry ... some sour grapes just never get sweet to me.

You win some you lose some.......it just stings that Iowa has produced some great O-lineman and these 2 kids pick schools that dont develop lineman quite like Iowa has.....
