Iowa Hawkeyes: The Big Ten's Enigma

Good read, Pretty much right on don't ya think ?

Agreed, Lasbur. This was one of the most interesting and informative articles I have read about this year's Hawk BB team. I don't know a lot about x's and o's in basketball, but the info on the "motion" offense was enlightening. I listened to a couple of the Gazette guys podcast earlier today and they cut to the chase and said, in effect, "This is NOT about coaches...its about players," referring to the Iowa meltdowns we have witnessed again this season. Both of them said (one was Morehouse) that they are not even sure Fran can do anything to resolve this problem...its up to the players. And, to be clear, neither of them were throwing the kids under the bus; just trying to analyze.

This also reiterates what Jay Bilas said after the Michigan State game in Rick Brown's article: "I've never seen a better prepared basketball team by a coaching staff," Bilas said. "Fran, Kirk (Speraw) ... They were dialed into what Michigan State was going to do. I've seen a bunch of teams prepare for Michigan State, and Iowa was the best."

The coaches can only do so much, after a point, it's up to the players.

I really thought this team would be tougher and maybe they will come around. Going into N.C. & OSU and winning s not easy. But I felt White would be a strong leader but I thought Gessel and Woody wood start to make it their team and be good leaders. They need to have the same approach they both took at Chapel Hill every game

Great read. If Bilas is right, it sounds like the team needs a halftime adjustment expert as their next assistant.

Isn't this essentially what the North Florida coach said as well?
