Iowa Football's Kaevon Merriweather Growing into Position

All that I am reading says Merriweather looked tentative out there. To a lesser degree, that may have been generally true of the entire defensive backfield. They did not look lost out there, or playing out of position. It's not that bad. A number of people, after rewatching the game say that the coverage wasn't so bad.

Brett Gabbert was threading the ball into traffic out there. I don't think anyone, outside of perhaps the Miami coaching staff, saw that coming from a freshman in his first game. Iowa missed several opportunities at pass breakups and interceptions, had they been a little more on their game. Once again, I don't think they saw that coming.

What Miami couldn't do was play the deep pass, or anything that took any time do develop. Their entire approach was predicated on getting rid of the ball before the Iowa defensive line could get to the quarterback.

He’s out at least this week per Harty. Hurt his foot in practice on Friday

Remember when Dustin Johnson threw his back out walking down stairs in socks before the Masters.

I think in recent years KF and staff have modified the "traditional" practice template and have more of the light practices in the middle of the week to help kids with school work but them ramp up the intensity towards game day to help combat some of the past issues with being stale and flat at the beginning of games. Regardless, shit happens, next man in. Rather have it now as opposed to conference play

The way the schedule lays out, as I understand it, is Sunday is film day, Monday is lift day, Tuesday is medium practice, Wednesday is full speed practice, Thursday is off day, and Friday is a walk thru. But to the previous poster’s point, it could very easily have been a non contact injury.
