Iowa Football Position Preview: Tyler Goodson Could Kick Start Running Game

I hate to see Young go...always felt he was underutilized a bit, and we all can remember at least 2 games when Iowa's running game was completely stymied for the 1st quarter and Young was inserted and then immediately ripped off a big gainer which completely changed the momentum of the game. He was a difference maker, and I'm guessing he leaves with the highest YPC of any of the RBs. No doubt Goodson is a difference maker too.
On another note, after the end of last season there was a lot of buzz about Iowa perhaps shifting away from their zone-heavy running game blocking scheme. I wonder if the lack of spring practice and/or shortened fall practices may push this potential change to another year down the road.

Good article Rob. I just hope we get to see this team on the field this fall as the offense seems to indicate tremendous potential and talent with Goodson and a host of reliable receivers. If the QB can deliver to those receivers the offense should be very good.
Let’s also hope the only Coronas fans have to worry about is the nice cold ones they are drinking.

I doubt Iowa moves too far away from the blocking scheme this year. I find it hard to believe they will truly abandon zone blocking. What I do think we will see more of is what we saw in the bowls with more fly sweeps and a bit more open playbook. Brian is not as stubborn as KF, and I think he is seeing he cannot just out execute with 75 yard drives. We need a bit more Hayden in the booth, and I think we will continue to see that.
