Iowa football needs to become Tom Davis on grass....or Fran Mcaffery on grass

Obviously, the Davis and Ferentz comparrisons have been made results wise. I'm not talking about that.

IMHO, there is a lot of blame to go around from the players to the coaches. Everyone had a hand in this very, very, dissappointing season.

But, I think another problem is we have gone stale as a program. Personally, I would love to see a new offensive approach to our program. I would love to have a wide open offense that we can see at other programs like Oregon, Boise St, what Texas Tech did under Leach, Rich Rod at Michigan (defense aside there). Not that you will always win games with it, but it is so much more fun to watch, and the players seem to have fun with it.

Defensively, we seem broken and a bit a figured out. Not that we don't have to completely abandon some of our bend, but don't break principles, but a think a little more aggression there could be beneficial.

Honestly, it felt like watching the football version of Lick ball the last few games. The players don't look like they are having much fun, and our coaches look haggared and tired.

I personally don't want Ferentz gone, but I would love for him to back some changes.

Ha, ha, joking aside. Just watching other teams out there and different styles of play, I just love aggressive play. And, you can't help but see other teams enjoying what they do with aggressive and wide open play.

Jon, you know more that we do. Is the absence of Norm Parker on the sidelines hurting the defense? Or is it just the inexperience at LB?

We look lost out there right now without Norm. What am I missing here?

Even last year, we did not exactly set the world on fire scoring points offensively. Our style is not exactly chop liver, but much was said today about how offensively tilted college football is becoming on gameday. The quick strike ability is something not to overlook and is quite the asset to have.

Of course, Ferentz is not going to change what he does. But, it is nice to dream.......

Good point Chosen. In our losses, a number of the opposing QBs hurt us with their feet. A multi-dimensional QB is also quite another asset to have at your disposal.

a complete offensive overhaul would take too long, but running a hurry up version of the current one (obviously modified to be not so idiotic that a 5 year old could figure out that Iowa ALWAYS runs to the right the first play of the game) would keep the D on their heels. How many timeouts has Iowa wasted over the years because they broke the huddle with 5 seconds left then couldn't get the play off in time..........a lot. also, molding your offense to your most talented guys is painfully obvious. Someone should let KOK in on this secret, he might have utilized DJK properly had he known this.

With the two former QB's at wide recievers doing reverses why didn't the receivers attempt some passes?

I see running backs and receivers on other teams doing it with good success.

Because we tried that once against MSU and it didnt work so we ripped it out of the play book and banished anyone from talking about it.

I'm not KOK fan, but I don't want to abandon the pro style offence. We get great TE's and usually descent OL and always a great defence. We're never going to get great WR's so that system isn't going to work here and once you go to that system then your defence always suffers and you stop getting the recruits. You got to know who you are and we're Iowa were always going to get big boys OL and tuff as nail defensive players. Look at Nebbie when they went to the west coast offence with Callahan they struggled that's not who they are or can get. They're nebbie they are known for d good OL, RB's, and running QB. Michigan has the great offence but it's not who they are. They are known for pro style quarterbacks and RB's yes their putting up the points, but it's obviously killed their defencive recruiting. Who in their right mind once to go play defence for a Rich Rod type system??? My point is their not being who they are. You got to play to your strengths would it make any sense for Florida to run our offence? No it's not who they are or can get. Mike Leach's system put up the points, but it hasn't sniffed the success that we've had with our system in place.

Well if thats what you want I hear a former purdue head coach who was famous for his Basketball on grass offense is just sitting around in wyoming with nothing to do.

Let's see... the OP listed the who's who of college football

Boisie St - Plays in a cream puff conference and by the way lost to Nevada with everything on the line. How about that for an invinceable offense.

Texas Tech (Under Leach) - Never beat an upper echelon team and typically got smoked

Mich (Rich Rod) - Are you freaking serious? This guy is about to get canned and has had one of the worst runs in Michigan history. This yardage football team netted exactly 7 points against OSU.

Oregon - Major fraud,,, soft schedule, PAC 10 plays little defense and played most games of substance at home this year. Will be exposed by Auburn.

I'll take SUBSTANCE over glitz and glamour anyday.

The offensive issues start once again with KF's guru staple = O-Line. Fix that and we'll start moving the ball and scoring points. The system breaks down when the O-Line is having issues.
