Iowa Football: Kirk Ferentz's 7 Biggest Challenges for Hawkeyes in 2013(BR)

Yeah, I guess that sums it up, but one thing that I didn't see mentioned there that has been an issue for a while, not just last year, that I would like to see improve: special teams.

Block a punt, return a kickoff past your own 25, don't fair catch on every punt even if there's nobody within 10 yards of you (a return would be nice), or worse yet, don't back away and let the ball bounce and roll an extra 10-15 yards. Iowa seems to get very little help in the field position game from its special teams unit.

Wow...some real insight here. I've not seen any of those challenges discussed anywhere. I wonder if KF knows of these challenges. Incredible eye for the obvious Bleacher Report.

I can't even remember the last time this happened. Seems like forever and a day ago.

I seem to remember a blocked punt against some tomato can school they played early in 2010. Paki O'mera got to one I think???

But a blocked punt in a meaningful situation? That has been a really long time. PSU 2009

That one had me chuckling :D , but yeah the last one I remember that mattered was AC against Pedo State.

I think it was Maine. And, if memory serves, Paki bomb scored a TD in that block.

Who keeps starting threads for new articles on Bleacher Report? These guys reward their "writers" for page views and incentivize the clicks they receive with special gold stars badges. These kinds of linkmania threads are just a way of some guy getting more views to move up whatever chart they have over there. Someday, they might move up to an unpaid internship for a fan media blog.

More reiteration of the same ole information most of us know. Iowa has good running backs. They don't have good WR's. Iowa's defensive line is suspect. Need to find a QB.

Here's my thoughts. Run right, run left, run up the middle. Pass occasionally. Keep Iowa's offense on the field and Iowa's defense off the field. Gain yards on the first down and convert third downs. Until a WR learns to catch Iowa needs to lean on their TE's. No QB by August 15th...sell your tickets early and beat the rush.

And you can also read about the 10 coaches that won't survive the season. First one is KF. Apparently they don't think he's going to meet those challenges.

If only we could give them likes. ;)

Pretty good list of challenges. Some are fixable but the QB,WR and DE issues seem to be not only the biggest challenges but, perhaps the most difficult to solve this year.

Not so sure. We have first-time starters at QB many times before. Some had seen minimal action prior to starting, a few had significant playing time, some nothing more than mop-up time, which is almost equal to no playing time when you figure the pkays they "ran" were either hand-offs into the line or taking the knee.
