Over at Black Heart Gold Pants, The Price of a Victory in Big-time College Football - Black Heart Gold Pants

Story on money in college football. Big Ten and SEC dominating as expected. But wow, check out Iowa... 11th highest earning program in the country. Basically tied with Florida and Neb! :D

9 Nebraska $361.2M
10 Florida $355.8M
11 Iowa $343.0M

Iowa State on the other hand, ouch...

45 Iowa State $156.8M

Florida: 3 national championships
Nebraska: 5 national championships

Iowa on the other hand, ouch...

And these schools can't afford to pay their student athletes, or at least provide full cost scholarships? And I mean all of their scholarship athletes, not just the football players.

The "additional" cost for full cost schollys for the 158 or so student-athletes (some are divided among several in sports such as Baseball) to the University of Iowa would be just over $1.7 million per year.

Should have made that clear.

I think only a stupid person would expect a direct correlation between the money a program makes and its WL record.

They've gotten good results. They have elite training and practice facilities, they hired and retained an elite coaching staff, and they have a consistent top 25 program that competes for conference championships on a regular basis.

Since Iowa is making the money of FL, and NE, shouldn't the fans expect FAR more out of their team...?

Iowa has won a BCS bowl in the last 2 years, and has won 28 games overall the past 3 years. That puts them in a tie for 14th best winning percentage over that time. 14th is pretty close to 11th...

I'd rather have a paycheck that was earned than a trophy I had to cheat for.

And yes, I am serious; meaning I'm ok not having a modern national champion ship trophy as long as we are doing an honest days work for the success we have.

I'm pretty proud to be a Hawkeye and proud we are in the Big Ten. (Part of the reason i am really ****** at O$U.)

It's not stupid at all. People are pumping money into this program, and they should expect good results.

meh. They have good results.

Do you want them to "take it to the next level?"

-like Michigan did with RichRod
-like Iowa did with Alford
??
