IIRC, DiBona is the one who gave up football due to health reasons. I'm not sure on Getz' status. Hell, maybe they're both done. I hope not though.

Should be deeper this year at LB than they past two years. Hopefully starters can stay relatively healthy though because the starting group has a chance to be really good.

Poggi was pretty highly though of coming out of high school and seems like he is a good athlete. Hopefully he can get healthy and contribute.

Wouldn't mind seeing Morris move outside once in a while to get Alston in at MLB. That kid looks like a stud and I would hate to see his talents wasted sitting behind Morris for 3 years.

but we definitely have a strong lb crew.

Ranking the LB unit at #6 in the conference isn't unfair, but I suspect both Morris and Kirksey will be in the first or second team of the all-conference linebackers by the end of the season. Morris was hampered by a significant nagging injury all season. He's healthy this year and both he and Kirsey's biggest deficits have been a lack of size both will be bigger and stronger this season than they have in year's past. Hitchens, has played well in a limited role and should transition smoothly to a starting position.

Depth is a more significant issue, but Alston looks like he's be ready to the #4 LB.

This will be an athletic, and experienced unit that should be able to make plays sideline-to-sideline..

Not 100% sure, but I believe there is a special arrangement for kids who basically "retire due to injury" that allows them to complete their degree, but not count towards a schollie.

I agree that LB should be a strength, possibly our strongest position this year. Needless to say, Iowa is getting very little respect from all the preseason predictors....which typically bodes well for Iowa during the Ferentz era.

id go with defensive backs or offensive line as possibly our best positions. db has depth and proven players. ol has depth and a few provens.lb has proven players but lacks a little depth.
