Iowa blocking.

What is up with Iowa blocking on run plays? Run blocking should be the bread an butter for an Iowa team. And this group includes two 320 pound tackles.

This team does a very good job blocking in both the run and pass games. This is a very talented and gritty offensive line. With how well they play Iowa can continue to put up 48 points against big 10 opponents.

Yep. They stacked the box against us because they gave up 300+ last game. It worked for stopping the run, but we were able to run outside the box and obviously throw on them. Receivers open all day all over the field.
Agreed. Stanley’s grade was in the B to B+ range. Not his A game and Iowa still scored 48 points.

People complaining Iowa doesn’t score enough and when we do score more than enough? now we can’t run the ball.

maybe I watched a different game, but it looked like we ran pretty good a
You do need to be a guru to figure out how 6 can block 8.

You don’t need to be a guru to figure out 6 is less than 8.

Seems like other team are capable. Shoot, GT ran 65 times the other day for 500+ yards. Looks like they figured out how to do it.

yes. You must have watched a different game. Iowa has 107 yds rushing on 40 attempts.

Do you know what kind of offense GT runs?

Adrian Clayborn did. And he was a one man wrecking crew in the Orange Bowl. He seemed to be shutting down every facet of their triple option.

1. Fact is, its still a young offensive line. Two of them are less than halfway through year two as a starter and arent grown 21-22 year old men. No matter the size, it still counts. Toughness is gained. Playing strength and confidence/toughness is gained on the game field, not the weightroom or practice field (practice field to a certain degree, but situations are manipulated).

2. Our backs are less experienced runners lacking slightly in the "burst" factor. See the hole, plant, accelerate. They arent slouches, but the nature of the zone read plays better for an experienced back with quickness, not necessarily speed, but good vision, instinct and quickness.

3. Teams are selling out. And sometimes those teams get burned by the passing game. But we dont have a HR threat RB to keep defenses honest, and lets face it, our offense (i believe its better) is somewhat predictable (insert jokes here).

4. Mental focus has been lacking at times, mostly attributed to lack of experience.

That triple option we shut down in the bowl game years ago.

We got some good runs in the 2nd half. We could have been better, but our running gameplan sucks.
