We seem to be stuck in kind of a circling of the drain without actually going down the drain... just a constant state of flux.

I fire Lickliter after this year, without question. But the reason for this is maybe different than what you're thinking...
The fans will tolerate another year of this tops, and after that there will be flat out demands for his removal.
If players leave, and even if they don't, it seems like a dramatic improvement is stretching it.
So why not nip it in the bud earlier... we all know how this is going to end, right?
Then, you go looking for a new coach. You have a track record of offering a good salary, and the ground will be broken on a brand spanking new practice facility and arena upgrades.
Iowa BBall is a pretty good job... and if you are a young coach, you know all you need to do is play exciting basketball and go to the NCAA tourney 4 out of 5 years and the base is beyond happy... even if we go in every year as an 8 seed, it will be so far beyond what we've had the past 10 years.
