Iowa Basketball Recruiting Class 2015

I noticed Iowa has shown a lot of interest into 3 guys for the 2015 class. Austin Pope 6'6'' PG, Novian Cherry 6'5'' SF, and Tony Anderson 6'8'' PF. The common denominator with these three guys is not one has an offer. Is there any reason? All three look as if they could come in and contribute right away especially Cherry who would be a JUCCO transfer.

Like Dickerson level contribution or Anthony Hubbard level contribution?

It will be a big man. Most of Cherry and Pope's interest was early, before other commits.

This is the guy I am leaning towards - Christian Williams No idea on the 11 games he sat at the beginning of the year, but sounds like it had benefits for all.

We will see who Fran picks up, if he signs another player. My guess is he will grab one more. A shooter would be good for this team. Williams seems to fit the bill.

If this kid ends up @ Iowa, Fran will make sure he's well taken care of....wow, this kid must've had it pretty rough at home....

It sounds like it, and my heart goes out to that kid.

At this point I want to get the best available player, and Lord knows we need to improve our guard play. I would rather play small and get a good guard, than take a project at C that won't contribute for 3 years.

I don't know, that'd be a tough call. Our biggest and best post player would be Woody...and he'd be our ONLY post player. If Iowa does offer this kid then I think it may signal that Fran knows of, or will ask, a scholly player to move along. While this kid would put Iowa over the top in excellent shooters (JU, Ellingson, Fleming), we would be much smaller than UM is now and we know what our length did to them this season. Tough, tough call, again, unless a current scholly player will be leaving and Fran can take this kid and a big. Maybe the kid from Bettendorf?

Yeah, tough call because after the 2015-16 season (Woody & Gesell gone), Iowa is definitely going to have needs at both positions.

In my mind, if you can fill either one with a player you feel is a "can't miss" when you have the chance, then you do it, whether it's a PG or a C.

Going big is overrated these days anyway. I'd much rather see a lineup of Uthoff, Uhl, Jok and Gesell with a Moss/Hutton/Noskowaik, over a 6'10 project that isn't ready to play anyway.

That's so true...hell, the McIntosh kid played very well against us yesterday...he's listed at 6'3"....no fear from him whatsoever....To be honest, that's Iowa's downfall, good guard play....has been far too long...We'll see what Fran & Co. can do with this kid if they get'em on campus (recruiting is also a huge problem, or at least sealing the deal w/some of these kids))

I know Nick personally, he played my son a lot back when they were kids in 7th 8th grade. Kid can flat out play.

Our best team in the 2000s was the 05/06 team and it had E. Hansen and not that much else for Woody's kind of height, I think. At least that was any good. Brunner wasn't more than 6' 6" was he?

The team still needs a body to match up with the likes of Kaminsky, Purdue's big men, etc. I agree, they don't need a 7 footer on the floor at all times, but the future classes need a post player.

Exactly. You have to play defense, too.
