Joe Williams coach of Jacksonville team that beat Iowa in the tournament in 1970 dies. Still remember Pembrooke Burrows tipping one in at the buzzer on a shot from almost half court that came off with a thud to beat us at the buzzer 104-103. And that was long before the 3 point shot. What a great Iowa team and what a disappointing end

Yes, that was just a terrible ending. Then the hawks went out in the regional consolation game (remember those) and iirc laid 75 point on NDame in one half. WOW.

iirc The hawks came back to tie the game late against Jacksonville and a couple of chances to put it away. There was no shot clock but Iowa did not try to stall away the game and missed those opportunities.

I might try to find some video of those games so some younger hawk fans can see them.

And didn't Artis Gilmore play with five fouls because of a scorers book error where one of his was inadvertently given to Burrows?

Artis' own words ... he fouled out of that Iowa game with 8 minutes to go. He thought he had blew their chance at a win.
