Iowa Basketball 2009-2010 vs. Iowa Football 2000

Back in 2000 KF was comming into his third year. It started rather rocky as they dropped thier first five ball games. There were rumblings from many corners that KF was not the right person for the job, that the program had reached or equaled it's all time low, we were showing no signs of life, and that we should go in a different direction. Then came the homecomming game early in the B10 season against MichSt8. We won that game 21-16 (only his 3rd B10 win and the first in roughly 2 years). We closed out the year winning 2 out of the last 6 and we were very competitive in two of the losses.

In 2009-2010 Lick was comming into his fourth year. There were rumblings from many corners that Lick was not the right person for the job, that the program had reached an all time low, we were showing no signs of life, and that we should go in a different direction. Early in the B10 season we were 6-11 and 0-4 in the B10. We win an out of conference game against TennSt8 and follow that up with a home win against PennSt8. Our next 3 games were extremely competitive dropping a couple of very close games at MichSt8 and at home against fOSU and winning a big road game against Indiana. The rest of the year we..........

I just though it was interesting. It follows a pretty similar ****** up to this point. The next month is going to tell us a lot IMO.

Actually, 2000 was KF's second year,and this season is lick's 3rd year.

Is there a parallel? We will see. In 2000, KF's second year, they did really play well in the Big Ten season, going 3-5(should have been 4-4 cept Matt Stockton got hurt in the Minny game and they blew that lead)..

The parallel would really work if the Hawks bb team had rallied last year in the conference to go 8-10 or so, and this year were looking at maybe 11-7 or 10-8 and making the NIT.

But, I just do not like comparisons between sports...football takes longer to turn around with 24 starters, while bb quicker to turn naturally due to only 5 men on the court at a time.

I am encouraged by the Hawk play the last 5 games,no doubt. But, I think we need to avoid comparisons with KF and the football program. We do not know that Iowa will have the same breakthru in BB that we had in FB....one injury to a bb team can kill their shot at making a tourny next year...crystal ball is foggy.

I hope both programs end up following the same path. Like most iowa fans I am unsure if Lick can get the job done but I am hoping that he can. It would be a lot easier if this staff can get it figured out as opposed to starting over. Throw in the fact that Lick is a nice guy and I think most fans are rooting for him to get it done

By the same logic one or two transfers to a bb team can kill thier season as well as lenghten the time it takes to turn something around.
