Iowa athletics public relations: F

Barta's statement mentioned the efforts of the players and that he'd evaluate the 2010 season and look forward to 2011. No mention of Lickliter or the coaching staff FYI.

It's like the subject of one of the other threads. Iowa is trying to control the flow on info. My guess is that Iowa has made their decision and they weren't going to release it until the time was right. Somehow it got out and took on a life of it's own, even to the point where a media outlet reported it. Now Iowa is backed into a corner playing damage control because they didn't want the info out yet.

In what regards? Other than what Haddy sent to the Register, there hasn't been anyting out of Iowa.

Better yet, what should they have said?

Dude you should chill out a little bit, its 311 day for crying out loud...light up a Spliff and let the good times roll...this is a good thing going on right now... positive vibes finally, I'm typing on a computer and I can feel the energy meter ramping up...your kinda sabotaging that right now.

What should they have said?

Contrary to published reports there has been no decision made about the future of the Iowa basketball program. Gary Barta will sit down with Coach Lickliter when the team returns to Iowa City to discuss the year, as he does with all coaches. Barta will have a statement regarding the season and the team at some point after that meeting.

That is almost exactly what Barta said.

+1

There was a rumor they said it wasn't true, what else more do you want them to say? You are aware that they control the offical info and we aren't owed anything, they can and will make a statement when they feel ready if they feel it is even needed.

If not true I will really feel bad for Lick, to some it's turned into a F'ing witch hunt.

I'm fine and I quit smoking 3 years ago. I don't think there is anything Iowa could have done to slow things down today - hell, look at what happened when Haddy sent that message to the Register. Everyone here said it was ********.

This release tells you nothing. We know just as much before this release as we do after the release.

Why do a press release with no information in it?

You do it when you have nothing...

that you can add, but the issue has become so big that your administration and head coach are being asked about it. Several issues all in play here.
1) Any deal between the UI and Lickliter has been agreed upon, but not finalized (signed). Add in that Delaney doesn't want this upstaging the BTT. This precludes anything definitive from being said.
2) Barta has made his decision, but has not yet spoken to Lickliter about it. In which case you don't get rid of the coach that way.
3) Or there really is nothing to it and he will be back. But if this were the case, Barta's statement would have been more definitive.
