IOWA CITY, Iowa - - University of Iowa head men’s basketball coach Fran McCaffery today announced that Al Seibert has joined the staff as video coordinator. Seibert replaces Ryan Bowen, who left in December for a coaching position with the Denver Nuggets.
“I’m excited to have Al Seibert join our Hawkeye staff,†said McCaffery. “I’ve known Al for nearly 20 years. He brings a wealth of experience and is knowledgeable about the game.â€
“I’d like to thank Fran McCaffery for this opportunity,†said Seibert. “The most exciting thing about being here is the people, and the tradition. I believe that working with a coach like Fran McCaffery, with his experience and expertise, is going to help me grow as a coach and as a person.â€
Seibert has 18 years of coaching experience, having most recently served as the head coach at the University of New Haven in West Haven, Conn., from 2005-10. He was at the University of Hartford for five seasons, four as an assistant (2000-04) and one as associate head coach (2004-05). Seibert was also an assistant coach at Western Kentucky (1994-98). Other stops include one season as a volunteer assistant coach at Duquesne (1992-93) and working as a basketball administrative assistant at Pittsburgh (1993-94).
Seibert also worked as a college basketball recruiting expert for Insiders Report from 1998-2000.
Seibert played collegiately at Frederick Community College (Md.) from 1981-83.
