Iowa a 4 or 5 seed scenarios

Pretty sure this is right:

If Purdue loses, Iowa is the 4 seed.
If Purdue wins and Ohio State loses, Iowa is the 5 seed.
If Purdue wins and Ohio State wins, Iowa is the 4 seed.

2 ways to get the 4 seed still and only 1 way to get the 5 seed.

Current odds:
Purdue -5.5 at home against Illinois
Wisconsin@Ohio State - Pickem

5 seed game is Thursday around 1:30pm
4 seed game is Friday around 1:30pm

According to LiveRPI, there is only a 32.64% chance of Purdue winning AND OSU losing. I'll still have to see it to believe it.

Purdue and OSU winning would give us the 4 seed and we'd play Purdue (if they win their first game). Purdue losing today would give us OSU in our first game. If we get the 5 seed and beat the 12 or 13 seed, we'd play Purdue. I'd much rather play Purdue than trying to beat OSU a 3rd time.

That's right at the beginning of Stats class. I'm sure I can figure out a way to have my students watch the game and pass it off relevant to the course, right?

What about the 3 seed? What needs to happen for that to happen? MSU to lose?

Agree about not wanting OSU a 3rd time. So, at this point, here's the preferred outcomes.

#1) Hope OSU can find some home-court, senior day magic and upset Wiscy. Purdue just has to beat Illannoy (very likely).
-- Hawks get #4 and play #5 Purdue. Extra day of rest but not sure if that's a good thing.

#2) Just have it go chalk -- Purdue beats Illannoy and Wiscy wins @ OSU.
-- Hawks get #5 and play #4 Purdue. (Sorta what I expected all along) That first game would be against PSU or NwU. Should be a win but could be a last minute bad loss.

#3) Illannoy gets road upset over Purdue (40% chance, imo); doesn't matter between OSU and Wisky.
-- Hawks get #4 but have to play #5 OSU. This would not go well.

Yeah I think best case scenario Purdue wins and Ohio State wins. Iowa gets the 4 seed and plays Purdue on Friday. Even though Iowa beat them twice already I don't want to see Ohio State unless its deep into the tourney

I don't care who we play as long as it's a quality team. I want nothing to do with bottom of the conference fodder. Playing those types of teams does nothing at this point. I want the 4 seed and to play whomever the 5 seed is. Worst case scenario then would be a quality loss, best case is another resume building win which could push us up a seed.

I'm rooting for that 6 seed in the dance really hard.

Yeah I don't want Minnesota, NW, PSU, Nebbie, or Rutgers at this point. They are all trash, do nothing for our resume, but would be a damaging loss for us seed wise, if we play poorly enough to actually lose to one of those bozos.

Its basically a lock that if Iowa gets the 5 seed they'll be playing the winner of Penn State/Nebraska. The only way that doesn't happen is if Nebraska beats Maryland tomorrow night which is highly unlikely.

I'd much rather just get the 4 seed than have to worry about an on-fire Newbill/Garner or Petteway/Shields. Plus a win against either of those teams does basically nothing for Iowa. Maybe a tiny boost since a neutral court but that wont be worth it

Glad I read this. I was trying to work out how to root for Illinois without barfing in my mouth every 5 min. So, Ima take option 1. Yea.

Perfect. We WANT Wisconsin in a semi-final vs. getting them in final. We still have to win 1st/2nd game, but getting Wiscy in final "could" be brutal, what with them playing for a "double" B1G title (reg season AND BTT). Get 'em early.
