I wasn't sure where to put this exactly, but here is a post from a great college football blog that is doing an in-depth examination of recruiting rankings over the last 5 years, and here Iowa is mentioned as one of the nation's most consistent over-achievers during that time span.

Thanks that is an interesting topic. While the exact formulas that the recruiting agencies use to assign stars is proprietary, there is an element to them that factors in WHO is recruiting the player. So there is a bit of bias implicit in the system.
