Iowa picked up its fourth commitment in the 2018 recruiting class Saturday when Indianapolis WR Tyrone Tracy announced his pledge to the Hawkeye:

I can't remember who it was, but some big time coach once said that getting an early commitment means that they're in the player's top five.

Sounds like a good player, though. Would be a good get if he sticks.

Nice pickup. As 99 suggests, other teams will come after him. Coaches need to bombard him with attention till signing day. Take him on a picnic; roller skating on Saturday night; Taylor Swift or Justin Beiber concert this summer; an occasional movie from the DC or Marvel universe; serenade him over the phone with a romantic song by the Carpenters or Olivia Newton John. Stuff like that.

You don't think he should call them and tell them personally huh?
Just prefer a little humility versus striking up the band to announce your choice. Old fashioned I guess. Still glad he's a Hawk and will be playing for a Coach where he will learn such things.

I was critical of a signing-day spectacle where a kid revealed one school's shirt, only to take it off to reveal another school's shirt, only to take it off to reveal his REAL choice's shirt. I thought that was pretty inconsiderate to those first 2 schools. The player involved in that spectacle could very well be a great kid, but I think that was a poor choice, and I question how the adults in his life could let him go that route.

Perhaps it is hypocritical, but I don't feel the same way about this video. For one, there was no "fake reveal" involved. But it also does not smack of self-obsession so much as a desire to be creative and to control the narrative of one's life (that is my interpretation, anyway). I also admire the effort that went into it, and I feel sincerity comes through in the final product.

A simple phone call to the coaches would have sufficed, but this seems like it was fun for the athlete, his friends, and his family, so have at it.

I think everyone knows how young these kids are, but some don't comprehend it.
