INDIANA OFFENSE/DEFENSE

Since Indiana has a new staff and I have not seen any of their game action, can someone post what kind of offense/defense they run.

The unsuccessful kind ;)

Still some pistol variations on offense from what I saw this weekend...worst rush D in Big Ten by 55 yards to second worst team, which is NW. 117th in the nation...BTW, NW is 76, Nebraska 75 and Minnesota 74

Can't run the ball, can't stop the run.

Pretty much all you need to know about Indiana, in a nutshell.

They are BAAAAAAAAD.

Thanks for the commentary, but was really wanting some info on their style and how that might play out against the Hawkeye O/D.

They are a spread offense and they like the short passing game. Except all 3 of their QBs suck (Kiel is hurt and probably won't play) and their WRs were awful last week (head coach called them out in the postgame presser). Belcher got hurt and might be out this week.

The like to run out of the pistol but aren't very good at it. They had to go to a wildcat look last week because they have no idea how to move the ball.

On D, they are like NW, only they suck worse. We will run the ball, we will throw the ball, we will score at will. They start a true freshman walk-on at safety that was an LB the week before.

Any other questions?

Kevin Wilson just came from Oklahoma where he guided offenses that put up huge numbers for Sam Bradford and later Landry Jones. They had the talent to do whatever they wanted, so they would run no-huddle spreads and then switch to power formations just to put up tons of points every week.

He was part of an obscure forgettable 2000 game with Northwestern playing against Urban Meyer's (and Dan Mullen's) Bowling Green Falcons each team running a prototype of what is now the fashionable spread offense.

The Hoosiers have a commitment from a big time quarterback recruit for next year, until then the kids older brother is on the team.

We should not be overlooking Indiana. No matter how bad they are they seem to always play well against Iowa. Then we have Minnesota coming up and we all know how that went last time. These are two very important games coming up no matter how bad those teams have been.

two years ago, when we started 9-0 and had a much better team than we do this year, they were up on us pretty big before an amazing 4th qtr. Don't count anyone out this year hawks...im telling you, game by game

Indiana actually had a fairly decent offense to go along with their usual crappy defense the last couple of years.

This year, not so much.

In case you haven't noticed, this has been opposite year. Lose to ISU after blowing them out the 2 previous years. Loss at PSU after owning them the last 2 years. Beat NW after being their ***** for 3 straight years.

We will absolutely destroy Ind and Minn, and I'm going to make a lot of money watching it happen.

Actually Indiania is running the Oklahoma O and D. Gamble with blitzes etc. They give up big plays and hope to get big plays go their way. You will see them blitz all over the place and take chances to try and get to's.

The last two Indiana teams we played were substantially better than this team. Those squads both flirted with bowl eligibility (4-8, 5-7); this team would have a difficult time competing in the Sun Belt.

I know the players shouldn't take anything lightly, and after the last two years against Indiana I don't think they will. But this is a team that we need to crush, especially at home. There's nothing wrong with fans expecting that.

take it easy... we should win but i take nothing for granted this year...im not saying we are crushing anyone...thanks IMO

Indiana HAS gotten pasted by Illinois and Wisconsin ... however, both of those teams are obviously pretty darn good this year.

Prior to those blow-outs ... Indiana was playing everybody pretty close.

Thus, I'd definitely conclude that the Hawks shouldn't look past the Hoosiers.

Unless James Hardy or Mr. Randle El are suiting up we should be able to win by 14. This team is turrible.

The main thing that bodes well for us is that their D really is pretty bad AND the game is at Kinnick ... that means that Vandenberg will be in a friendly environment .... an environment where it's easier to bounce back from mistakes. Vandenberg still needs to prove that he can take the pressure on the road when the opposition is blitzing the crap out of him. Of course, a lot of that is on the pass-catchers too ... they need to catch the darn ball when it hits them in the hands. The PSU game likely would have at least been competitive if the Hawk pass-catchers did a better job of catching the ball.

It pains me to answer a great post in such few words. But I couldn't agree more. I honestly think we might cover cause we are at home. If this was a road game we might win by 3. Even with 22 people in the crowd.

I'm all for being confident, but I thought we were going to walk all over ISU this year and absolutely destroy Minny last year. I really hope you are right! I just get nervous about the games we should easily win more than the games where we are supposed to lose.
