India’s Olympic athletes will not compete for India | For The Win

Why? Because according to the Agence France-Presse, the International Olympic Committee froze India’s membership back in Dec. 2012 after learning that the Indian Olympic Association elected officials accused of corruption to its committee. The IOA will have new elections, but not until Feb. 9, two days after the Olympic Games begin, therefore Indian qualifiers will be officially classified “as independent athletes under the Olympic flagâ€.
Needless to say, Indian athletes aren’t happy. At the Opening Ceremonies, they’ll carry a generic Olympic flag instead of their own.
