In the last 2 years, how often has the Marble isolation play worked at the end....

...of a close game? Once, maybe?

It might be time to scrap that and simply move back to running the motion and see if we can't get someone free on a curl cut or back door layup. Odds certainly can't be worse than what our success rate is with that call.

Fran is just setting up tape for the remainder of the year. When we are playing Wichita State for our Final Four berth and we are down 1 with 4 seconds and have the ball, WSU will think Marble is gonna drive and shoot and they will collapse, then Marble will kick it to Oglesthree who will find nothing but the bottom of the net. Hawks win and advance.

The play worked, Marble and Basabe just didnt finish looks they usually convert. I dont see a problem with the set or the looks we had at the end of regulation.

I thought about this as well. Your assumption of 1 may be high as I do not remember Marble hitting a shot at the end to win or move into OT.

White needs to be the guy. He makes hard shots in traffic all the time and is the only consistent FT shooter on the team.

Not too down on the team as at the beginning I thought they would finish 3rd-5th. Just frustraiting that this team takes it so close then loses...

I love Fran but he needs to watch the last 4 min of every game he has coached at Iowa. His substitions or lack there of at the end of games have been less than stellar.

I think Iowa's had some good last second sets over the last two years. @Wisconsin they had White wide open and JO open for a 3. They missed White and JO's shot rimmed out. @Purdue was fairly similar to last night with Marble going one on one and missing a chip shot.

They just don't have a player that has shown the ability to finish.

I can't ever recall Marble making that shot.

I believe I read that the streak of missed shots to tie or win the game in the final minute is now at 32.

With everyone knowing that Marble was going to be the guy, why not at least get him a ball screen where we force a switch, or where he can waive if off?
Then he can just hit the pull-up jumper which is "in rhythm" after coming off of the screen with a larger defender who is likely back-peddling, compared to a floater and not quite under control. I will live with jump shots in rhythm all day compared to off balance/spin-move attempts.

Maybe if we go into the 1-4 set again, we might actually set a back-screen and throw a lob to White off of it someday.

Marble made shots late to put away Wisconsin and Minnesota 2 years ago. That's all I've got.

Basabe might have made the put back if he didn't get drilled on the arm on the shot and if Valentine didn't put his hand up through the cylinder and hit the ball. That's crafty D right there.

A coach doesn't make the basket, Fran got Iowa's best player a chance to win in, he missed a close in floater, and another starter missed a tip in.
