Immediate Guard Help

Here are some guards that are transferring from other schools:

Aaron Cosby 6'3" G Illinois
Jaren Sina 6'2" G Seton Hall
Rasheed Sulaimon 6'5" G Duke
Marcus Marshall 6'3" G Missouri St.
Andre Nation 6'5" G James Madison
Jordan Baker 6'4" G San Jose St.
John Johnson 6'1" G Penn St.
Evan Payne 6'1" PG Loyola Marymount

I think some are eligible right away.

We need some guards that make a difference.

Disagree totally with the OP. We will have 2 SR PG's next year and a Jr. 2 guard in Jok. We have several wing/2 guards coming in as well. There are no minutes available for another guard. See Trey Dickerson this year.

We desperately need some power forwards and centers (big guys) with only Woody next year. He rarely has played more than 25 mins in a game and tends to get in foul trouble. We have no one behind him next year. NO ONE. ZERO. Fran is taking a huge gamble if he does not bring 1-2 bigs in next year.

Fran has said he is going to bring in at least one big next year. I just hope its someone that can help the team offensively and defensively next year. The junior college big guy that Iowa tried to recruit last year didn't do anything special this year.

Agree that Iowa's highest priority is a big guy for next year. A graduate transfer at the 4/5 spot would be ideal.

But were a very good guard to fall into Iowa's lap, it would be welcome as well. The improved consistency of Gesell, Clemmons and Jok was a big reason Iowa won more games down the stretch. But if Fran has a shot to make the team better, he has to do it. You have 13 scholarships, use them. The reason there were no minutes for Dickerson is because he wasn't as good as Gesell/Clemmons. If Fran is able to bring in a guard that is better than what is currently on the team, then he needs to do it.

Looks like Iowa just got a commitment from 6'5" guard Christian Williams from Illinois.

Sorry, Fred is in on each and every one of them already.

That Williams kid is compared to Marble size and style of play wise... So that makes like 4 or 5 players between 6'4 and 6'7 coming in next year? I know a couple of those are more Basabe type of forwards but I'm glad this kid is a guard through and through. I wouldn't mind even pg. I like tall athletic guards that can get their own shot up and guard people.

He is a three star but has not been offered by any big time programs. They call him a "6'5" shooting guard." I think Fran does favor kids in the 6'5"--6'7" range who can score off the dribble and are good outside shooters. Peter Jok might be a very good example of the type of player he looks for. But, you guys are absolutely right; as much as we need athletic guys that can shoot, we need some help at the 5.

Seems to me that Fran wants his entire team to be between 6'5" and 6'7" in the future...

Iowa is in on a lot of tall athletic guys in the future. You would think they could find a highly rated power forward, but Wagher sounds pretty good even though he is a little undersized. I think all of Iowa recruits have pretty high ceilings. They should be fun to watch. I'm sure the Prime Time League will get a lot of interest from fans this year.

There are numerous Uncommitted Bigs in the ESPN Top 100 rating. Go get one. My gosh, there going to almost be guaranteed Playing time, immediately. Just don't reach for a kid like the one from Georgia, just a year back.

That kid was recruited in Woody's class. Time flies huh?

Can you say 6'9" 250? That is what we need

There is going to be a High School National Tournament April 2-4 with live coverage on ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU. Iowa recruit Fleming and Oak Hill Academy are ranked number one in the tournament. It will be a good opportunity for anyone that wants to see him play.
